After analyzing the drama, Antigone, for tragic characters, it is seen that there could

be many different possibilities. One character is clearly shown to be the tragic character

though, and that is Antigone. She plays this function so great because she has all of the correct

features of a tragic character including her tragic defect and her ruin. A tragic

character is defined as a individual who suffers a ruin in the class of the drama, this

character besides has a tragic defect which is the event that brings about the ruin of the

character. Although it could be seen that Antigone is the tragic character, there are many

other possibilities.

The secret plan construction can give many intimations or hints of which can uncover the tragic

character of the drama. The drama, Antigone offers many hints that the tragic character is in

fact, Antigone. Antigone has a tragic defect which is her haughtiness, or the fact that she

chooses to bury her brother, Polynices, even though the jurisprudence prohibits it due to the fact

that he is a treasonist. Her ruin is her decease which comes after she buries Polynices, she is

caught and brought to Creon, whose is king and boy Haimon is to get married her. He sentences

her to be banished

and locked off in a cave in which she hangs herself and subsequently Haimon

besides kills himself.

The calamity of this drama is that the chief character, Antigone, dies wholly because she

wanted to bury her brother but is banished and kills herself. The facet of Antigone affects

the drama in an of import manner because she wins favour of the reader/spectator because all

she wants to make is truly bury her brother. This leads to the terminal of the drama in which

she commits suicide every bit good as Haimon who commits self-destruction and everyone suffers the

calamity of their deceases.

The construct of destiny affects the tragic character s actions in a really of import manner.

Antigone s destiny is that she makes a pick. This pick she makes leads to her self-destruction as

good as Haimon s all because she wanted to bury Polynices but Creon s Torahs prevent this

but she does it anyhow. Antigone suffers her destiny every bit good as the other characters including

Haimon who besides dies.

A tragic character is indispensable to a drama for many grounds. The tragic character

suffers a tragic defect in which a character suffers a ruin. The construct of the tragic

character is relevant in all dramas and is sometimes hard to pick out such as this drama,

Antigone.
