Four Theories of Myth

There are four basic theories of myth. Those theories are: the rational myth

theory, functional myth theory, structural myth theory, and the phsycological myth theory. The rational myth theory provinces that myths were created to explicate natural events and forces. Functional myths are what you call the sorts of myths that were created as a type of societal control. The 3rd myth theory is the structural myth theory. This theory says that myths were patterned after human head and human nature. The phsycological myth theory is the 4th myth theory which states that myths are based on human emotion.

The rational myth theory provinces that myths were made to better understand natural events and forces that occurred in the mundane lives of people. This theory besides explains that the Gods and goddesses controlled all of these occurrences of nature. Examples of this type of myth are creation myths from different civilizations. Creation myths explicate how adult male was created and explicate what the Gods and goddesses used and what actions they took to make worlds. These myths besides tell what substances were used ( if any ) in order for adult male to be. The being of adult male is a natural event but creative activity myths give other

accounts.

The functional myth theory negotiations about how myths were used to learn morality

and societal behaviour. It states that myths told about what types of things should and shouldn T be done, and the effects for those incorrect behaviors. The functional myth theory besides states that myths were created for societal control and served the map of sing stableness in a society. A narrative about a folk who rebelled against the great snake, Degei, is a good illustration of a functional myth. This narrative is about a folk who learned many accomplishments from their great snake God, Degei, and so became Degei s workers and retainers. Two heads of this folk were ill

of working for him and tried to get the better of him ; they were excessively weak for Degei. Alternatively of winning their freedom, they were

killed in a great inundation caused by Degei. This myth is seeking to state that you should non be lazy because if you are, so you will repent it.

Structural myths are said to be myths based on human emotion. These types of myths show the two sides of the human head ; the good side and the bad side. They show the divided ego and the dichotomy of human nature. Myths about Hercules demo how the human head can be both good and bad. Hercules did both good and bad things. One of the bad things he did was ( in Jason and the Argonauts ) he stole a brooch pin from the treasure chamber of the God Talos. This wickedness caused his friend to be killed. Hercules knew that his friend was killed because of his wickedness, so to do up for it, he vowed to remain on the island until his friend was found.

The phsycological myth theory states how myths are based on human emotion and that they come from the human subconscious head. Cultures all around the universe had similar frights, inquiries, and wants which, to them, were unaccountable. That is the ground that phsycological myths were made ; and that is why there are originals shared between civilizations. Originals are general signifiers and characters used by all civilizations. Some originals found between civilizations are holding a sky God ( Zeus and Oleron ) , a sea God ( Poseidon and Olokun ) , and an agricultural God ( Orisha-Oko and Demeter ) . These originals are illustrations of how people think alike when it comes to things that are to them enigmas and frights.

In decision, it appears that adult male created myths for rather a few grounds. These grounds include explicating the unknown, natural events and forces, to demo the dichotomy and purity of human nature and the human head, and to assist societies keep order and remain stable. There must be more grounds of precisely why myths should hold arisen but that is beyond the extent of this essay.
