ABSTRACT

Since United States is a developed country, globalization is good for it with few shortcomings. But in real sense globalization can not be good or bad but depends on how it is implemented in United States. United States have gained a lot from globalization in that most of its companies have moved most of their manufacturing jobs to foreign countries where there is cheaper business. Those technical jobs and services are currently undergoing large movement to foreign labor. Globalization is good because it has brought about new idea that has been embraced not only by United States but also by other nations. Through globalization consumer becomes the real winner with every citizen growing more prosperous. Globalization helps deterritorization manifestation of social spheres helping involvement of people in e-commerce. Globalization in United States has led to multiculturalism enhancing understanding and peace among people. Globalization has greatly revived United States economy resulting to America’s economic interdependence with other countries.

IS GLOBALIZATION GOOD OR BAD FOR THE UNITED STATES

Introduction

            United States being a developed country has experienced a lot of benefits from globalization thus globalization being good for United States. United States has been viewed as the strongest supporter of globalization. Globalization is the transformation process of local or regional phenomena into global. It involves combination of technological, economic, political and sociocultural forces. Globalization mostly refers to economic globalization which involves incorporation of national economies to international economy through foreign direct investment, trade, migration, capital flows and spread of technology. Globalization in United States through trade, supply-chaining, outsourcing and political forces has permanently changed the country. The pace at which the process is taking place is fast and continues to impact on business practice and organization (Bhagwati, 35).

            In United States globalization has helped its people and improved its economy making some business go beyond making money through off-shoring practice and outsourcing. Globalization is affecting country like United States more than others with some companies not outsourcing to others. There are some organizations that are shifting their jobs to less expensive parts of United States like Iowa and other regions which are less expensive. Since United States is a developed country, globalization is good for it with few shortcomings. But in real sense globalization can not be good or bad but depends on how it is implemented in United States.             Globalization influences activities in different ways with trade effect on bargaining position of labor being significant. In scarce labor country like United States has experienced competition on imports awakening position of labor thus reducing strike activity. Globalization has affected on uncertain negotiation between capital and labor with rapid globalization resulting in increased strike activity. Globalization is good for United States since it has opened up a wide communication lines and led to establishment of many companies as well as several worldwide organizations. This has offered opportunity not only to the working men but also to women. Globalization is not only experienced economically but also culturally. Globalization has brought about greater cultural influence to United States with Americans expressing positive attitude. There has been dominance of United States culture in which the culture is penetrating to continents posing a dramatic change. Globalization is good because it has brought about new idea that has been embraced not only by United States but also by other nations (Maceus).

            Globalization has been the most successful susceptibility and anti-poverty in contemporary world of United States. In United States globalization has led businesses to global competition enabling market place to depend on work and offer customers with a better advantage. Due to globalization, businesses will no longer be able to corner markets since they have protection from politician. Domestic business in United States have an opportunity to compete with foreign business which are or not able to participate efficiently in business. This allows labor of United States to do what they are best at. Through globalization consumer becomes the real winner with every citizen growing more prosperous. Globalization has been associated with deterritorialization due to growth of various social activities that takes place regardless of geographical location. There are various global activities that takes place such as; digital computers, telecommunication, audiovisual media among others. It increases possibilities for action among and between people in different locations. Globalization helps deterritorization manifestation of social spheres helping involvement of people in e-commerce (Pena, 445).

            It has helped in growth of social interconnectedness across political and geographical boundaries making deterritorization significant aspect of globalization. It speeds up social activity by accelerating important forms of social activity. Globalization is the constitutive feature of contemporary world. In United States globalization is a long term process which has brought about innovations in transportation, communication and information technologies. It calls for complex and relatively autonomous sequence of experimental development. Globalization manifestation has generated different dislocations and conflicts. As a result of globalization, there has been emergence of worldwide market production and broader way into wide range foreign products for consumers and organizations. This specifically involves movement of goods and materials between and within national boundaries (Maceus).

            There has been financial emergency in United States as a result of globalization and better access to external financing for borrowers. Economical realization in global common markets in respect to freedom of exchange of capital and goods has been experienced in United States as a result of globalization. Globalization is viewed as establishment of world government to control relationships among governments and it guarantees rights arising from economic and social globalization. United States has politically enjoyed power position among the world position because of its strong and wealthy economy. Through globalization in United States and with help of its economy, people from other nations have experienced incredible development.  There has been increased flow of information among geographically remote regions due to technological advancement in satellites, optic communication and increased access to internet and telephony (Maceus).

            Through competition as a result of globalization there has been new global business market leading to improved productivity and increased competition. Enlargement of market has become worldwide with upgrading of companies in various sectors and skillful use of technology in order to face increased competition. Cross-cultural growth with new class of consciousness and identities had embodied cultural diffusion improving living conditions of people together with use of foreign goods and ideas. They have adopted on new practices and technologies with participation in world culture. There have been global environmental challenges which can be solved through international cooperation like climate change water and air pollution, spread of invasive species and over fishing. There has been international cultural exchange aiding in spread of multiculturalism thus individuals being in a position to access cultural diversity. United States has imported culture through globalization which has enriched their local culture resulting in reduction of diversity. Multiculturalism has enhanced understanding and peace among people. It has encouraged greater international tourism and travel which acts as a source of international understanding among United States and other nations thus being peace (Bhagwati, 41).

            Globalization in United States is good in that it has helped in spread of local consumer goods to other nations resulting in adoption of different cultures. There has been development of global telecommunications infrastructure and better transborder flow of data by use of communication satellites, internet, wireless telephones and submarine fiber optic cable. This has led to increased number of standards which are applied globally. Establishment of international justice movements and international criminal has been achieved in United States through globalization. Globalization has facilitated business environment with e-commerce and internet creating small-scale coops thriving businesses and giving vision to low class population. There have been greater effect to workforce in terms of gender, ethnic, age, racial background among others thus reducing racial discrimination in United States which is a long experienced problem. Globalization in United States has acted as the door that has opened a way for resources to international market (Pena, 448).

            Globalization has greatly revived United States economy resulting to America’s economic interdependence with other countries. Through global economy United States has been in a position to shape its future of global economy and organizations. Government should strive to improve stability of world economy and improve living standards of citizens. United States has been pushed to adopt new economic unilateralism so as to abolish WTO and IMF (Maceus).

Conclusion

            Globalization in United States refers to increasing integration of cultures and world economy leading to unprecedented powerful Multinational Corporation and it has greatly transformed business. Integration of world economies through globalization has left United States more open to influences from other nations which have enriched their economy, culture and social aspects. Globalization has led to expansion of international economic activity through increased international trade, growth of international investment and international migration and increased progression in technology. It has integrated market goods and services, capital and labor. Globalization is unstoppable and inevitable progression which has benefited United States a great deal.
