Dickinson was a female author who lived in America and wrote during the mid to late 1800s, and her verse form reflects the impact that both the Civil War and the War of 1812 had on people populating through that epoch.

In the first stanza, she discusses how her life & # 8220 ; closed & # 8221 ; twice before its existent & # 8220 ; close & # 8221 ; . Her, she is mentioning to great loss suffered through the two wars that America was involved in after it became a state, the first being the War of 1812, and the 2nd the Civil War. First of all, war frequently seems like snake pit on Earth. Second, many people turned to faith after the Civil War. They needed religious solace and the hopes for a better hereafter that a spiritual religion could supply.
