Smoke and Relaxation 3

Smoke and Relaxation

Are tobacco users more relaxed than non-smokers? I smoke and I want to happen out if the effects of smoking makes one more relaxed than person who doesn & # 8217 ; t. College can be a really nerve-racking clip for a individual and is an first-class topographic point to prove this inquiry.

Jenks ( 1994 ) conducted both steps of life and wellness satisfaction and steps of self-denial between tobacco users and non-smokers. He found that & # 8220 ; tobacco users were most likely to name relaxation along with psychological and physical dependence as a grounds for smoking. & # 8221 ; He besides saw that male and female tobacco users ranked their grounds for smoke in the same order: psychological dependence, relaxation, physical dependence, pleasant activity, and weight control. He so concluded that male non-smokers tended to experience more satisfied and in control with their lives than male tobacco users. I believe the more control you have over you & # 8217 ; re life the more relaxed you are. This tells me that even though tobacco users might experience relaxed while smoking, in the long tally they don & # 8217 ; t experience this, in fact they feel dying because of their dependence. In the survey of adult females tobacco users to non-smokers, the tobacco users were more likely to experience in control than the non-smokers. I think the ground for this is adult females are more likely to smoke to keep self-esteem and self- image. When adult females smoke it makes them experience relaxed psychologically, doing them experience better about who they are and fit in better socially.

When people smoke, they do it because it & # 8217 ; s enjoyable and it calms them down. They smoke when they & # 8217 ; re feeling emphasis and when they & # 8217 ; re holding problem get bying with certain state of affairss. Does this do them more relaxed than non-smokers?

Method

Hypothesis: Are tobacco users more relaxed than non-smokers are?

Prediction: I predict that the consequences of the study will bespeak that tobacco users are in fact less relaxed than non-smokers are.

Puting

The survey will take topographic point at Westfield State College, outside of the metropolis of Springfield, located in western Massachusetts.

Participants

The participants in the survey will be 10 to 20 pupils both tobacco users and non-smokers. There will be an equal sum of tobacco users and non-smokers involved in the survey. The ages used will be between 18 and 21.

Materials

There will be one study given to each of the topics. Some illustrations of the inquiries are, & # 8220 ; Do you experience your pulse addition during the twenty-four hours? & # 8221 ; Another one will be, & # 8220 ; How do you experience during the twenty-four hours? & # 8221 ;

Design and Procedures

The study will be given to random pupils that are tobacco users and to some that aren & # 8217 ; T.

It will take merely a few proceedingss to reply the inquiries. The study for the tobacco users consists of six inquiries inquiring about how they feel throughout the twenty-four hours when they smoke, and when they don’t fume. The study for the non-smokers is made up of fundamentally the same inquiries merely worded otherwise.

Consequences

Table 1 shows the consequences of the study inquiries I gave to the tobacco users and non-smokers utilizing manner, average and average. When the consequences of the two groups were compared for farther analysis, there was no existent important difference in the replies. For inquiry 2, I asked, & # 8220 ; How do you experience during the twenty-four hours? & # 8221 ; Both groups answered between 1 ( relaxed ) and 2 ( normal ) . For inquiry 4, I asked, & # 8220 ; Do you experience your pulse addition during the twenty-four hours? & # 8221 ; Again both groups answered between 1 ( no ) and 2, with 5 ( yes ) being the highest. Finally in inquiry 6, I asked, & # 8220 ; How much clip make you pass loosen uping during the twenty-four hours? & # 8221 ; The consequences were still really near together with the mean of 2.5 for the tobacco users and 2 for the non-smokers.

Figure 1 shows the frequence for each inquiry and the comparing between the two groups. As you can see there is a small difference, but non plenty to do any existent statements.

Discussion

The findings are non consistent with those of other research workers when the information from my survey was analyzed. They seemed to happen that non-smokers had more control over their lives than tobacco users, bespeaking that they are more relaxed. The consequences from both tobacco users and non-smokers were fundamentally the same with both topics bespeaking they felt relaxed during the class of a twenty-four hours. The information from this survey does non supply plenty grounds to reply turn out this theory that smoking causes relaxation. The job with this survey was that I needed to roll up more informations, which could hold been

done if more topics had been involved. Besides some of my inquiries were to wide and should hold been more personal to acquire more information. Further research is needed to find if tobacco users are more relaxed than non-smokers.
