Comparison of Tones

Through reading the pieces of Hagiographas by Booker T. Washington and W. E. B.

DuBois in the Three Negro Classic I have learned they have different attitudes/tones

towards society. Booker T? s tone was one of being positive towards life, and he was really

forgiving. On the other manus W. E. B. DuBois? s tone was wholly different. His tone was

non forgiving, and he thought really negatively. The tones of Booker T. and DuBois are

wholly opposites, one is of forgiveness and looking for the better in life, and the

other is of faulting and indicating fingers.

Booker? s tone was really forgiving, and he besides had a positive attitude towards life.

Washington believed that difficult work could assist a individual achieve anything they desired in

life no affair what race you are. A great illustration of this was the success of the black

painter, Mr. Tanner, overseas. Tanner was good appreciated by everyone despite of his

race. This credence was what Washington was taking for in the South and the full

United States. Even though Booker was apart of bondage he ne’er hated or blamed the

Whites for it. Booker believed that if the Whites and inkinesss could work together, society

as a whole would be immensely better. Washington ne’er gave mistake to the Whites for the

inkinesss lower position in life, but alternatively he asked for their aid to break the position of the

Negro race. All this was expressed in his addres

s to the people in the Atlanta Exposition.

He besides thought instruction would be the key to inkinesss going better citizens. Booker

T. ? s figure one end was to make societal equality for everybody.

W. E. B. DuBois had a different tone than Booker T. Washington. DuBois was

non forgiving at all, and he thought really negatively about what Washington had to state.

He feels that the Whites should take the duty of assisting the black community

progress in life, since the Whites were the ground for the Negro race being hapless and

lacking of political, societal equality. DuBois thought negatively of Booker. He

interpreted Washington? s instructions as a manner of seting the Negro race down even further

alternatively of raising it up. DuBois felt as if Booker T. was giving into the Whites alternatively of

standing up to them. At the Atlanta Exposition, DuBois felt that Booker was stating the

people to give up their political rights, and non to go on their chases in higher

instruction. If this were the instance, Washington wouldn? Ts have founded the Tuskegee

University for inkinesss to better themselves.

Booker T. Washington and W. E. B. DuBois had wholly different positions on the

same topic. This is shown in the tone of their Hagiographas. Washington? s tones are more

uplifting and motivation to a individual who would hold read his work during this clip.

DuBois? s tone is on a more negative note, which can deter a individual who decides to

read his Hagiographas.
