The Decision That Could Have Been

Everyday people make determinations that affect their hereafter lives. Do people

do the right determinations? What makes a determination a right one? What may be right

to some, may be incorrect to others. There are no right or incorrect determinations but those

that people choose and believe to be right changing from each person. In

Hemingway & # 8217 ; s realistic narrative, Hills Like White Elephants, Jig attempts to do a

important alteration in her life by doing the right determination, but is unable to because of

her weak characteristic defects. Jig is indecisive about her determination. Even though

she realizes the possibilities, she has troubles allowing spell of old wonts, has a low

self-pride that leads to her being submissive, and puts up a frail battle by concealing

her feelings behind her sarcastic remarks.

Jig faces an huge determination that will alter her hereafter. She must take

between the old and the new life style. It is difficult for her to allow travel of old wonts that

consists of taking no duty and the exclusive purpose of seeking pleasance. She

must travel from a immature worriedless Rebel to a stable grownup taking duty. It & # 8217 ; s

a difficult procedure since there are three stairss to altering: realisation, making the title,

do her a lame character incapable of altering and doing determinations that make

her an undependable and unwillful character.

Another weak defect is seen through her inability to talk out against her

lover. It & # 8217 ; s as if she tries to avoid any wrangles from happening. She uses sarcastic

agencies to conceal her true feelings about the issue. This is her lone manner of demoing

dissensions towards him. Either she is afraid to talk out her existent emotions or

she is being excessively tolerant and considerate towards him. When he tells Jig that he & # 8217 ; s

known people who have gone through with it before, she remarks, & # 8220 ; So hold

I & # 8230 ; and afterwards they were all so happy. & # 8221 ; On the surface she agrees with him that

everything will be the same afterwards, but, underneath she truly knows that the

abortion will convey them everything but felicity. Her sarcastic use hides her

experiencing so good that it seems as if she doesn & # 8217 ; t even seek to state him she doesn & # 8217 ; t want to
