The Evil That Men Do

The narrative? Young Goodman Brown? is one that examines the true temperament of world. In the narrative, the Satan declares that? Evil is the nature of mankind. ? However, there are many other elements in the narrative that point to the writer? s belief in this statement. From the minute Goodman Brown leaves his married woman, Faith, and throughout the remainder of the narrative, we are shown that immorality prevails in all people.

Our first expression into the true character of adult male is when it is revealed that Goodman Brown is doing a journey for an? evil purpose. ? Alternatively of remaining at place with his new married woman, he opts to go on with his programs, even though he knows they are incorrect. The fact that he knows what he is about to make is incorrect is pointed out to us many times, yet he still makes his manner into the wood. This is consistent with the belief that people are drawn towards evil.

Subsequently in the narrative, after he meets with the alien, we are told that the alien knew his male parent and grandfather good, and that he accompanied them

as they carried out evil workss. What is important about this information is that Goodman Brown believed himself to be the first of his household to roll from the Christian values he had been taught. Through this, we learn that even though we are taught what is right, evil is what comes of course to us, or is even what is inherited from our ascendants.

The event in the narrative that to the full shows that immorality is portion of the nature of the human race is the meeting of the enchantresss and warlocks that was held in the wood. The meeting is non of every bit much importance as is the people who are go toing the meeting. Goodman Brown recognizes many of the people he attends church with, every bit good as the deacon and the curate of the church. He knows many of them as good, God fearing, spiritual people. Yet underneath their Christian forepart, he discovers them to be in conference with the Satan himself. This acknowledgment serves as the point of the narrative. It shows that no affair how good a individual seems to be on the surface, their psyche is merely like everyone else? s, and contained within the psyche, is the true nature of world, immorality.
