Social work is to improve the quality of life and wellbeing of people. Just as Mayblum went and saved the lives of his friends while the attack happened, I would love to save the lives of children who are in harm of their families and even home. Throughout “The Price We Pay” Mayblum gave many examples as to how he helped his friends through the attack. “Took off my T-Shirt and ripped it into three pieces. Soaked it in water. Gave two pieces to my friends. Tied my piece around my face to act as an air filter” (page165). Here Mayblum did a smart thing so he can move faster from the dust and debris.

When Mayblum did this he helped not only himself but also his friends, which was being heroic and caring for another person. Since I want to be a social worker for children, I feel you will be considered a hero because you’re saving the lives of endangered children who need to be protected. “On the eighty-fifth floor a brave associate of mine and I headed back up to our office to drag out my partner who stayed behind. There was no air, just white smoke” (page 165). Mayblum was very cautious by going back up to save is friends. I felt throughout the essay Mayblum wasn’t selfish for helping other people.

Also it was good to read that there are still people that has a heart and able to care for other people and not just themselves. This is a social problem on many people because now days there are many people who are selfish and feel the need to not help others. This is a reason why I want to major in social work. The idea of helping people in need and to counsel them to me is being a great hero. Mayblum also showed he cared by offering help to a very heavyset man. “On the fifty-third floor we came across a very heavy set man sitting on the stairs.

I asked if he needed help or was he just resting. He needed help. I knew I would have trouble carrying him because I have a very bad back. But my friend and I offered help anyway. We told him he could lean on us. He hesitated, I don’t know why. I said do you want to come or do you want us to send you help for you. He choose help”(page 166). Mayblum offered to help many people but when he came across someone that well is hard to help shows he’s really is passionate and caring. I feel my voice and emotion is connected to what Mayblum did for many of the people during the attack.

I say this because with being a social worker it will be hard for me to take many children away from their parents but it will be safer for the children. With being a social worker it is also good that children can come to you and express what they feel about certain things and also you learn many interesting things from them. “A brave man was fighting a fire with the emergency hose. I stopped with friends to make sure that everyone from our office was accounted for. We ushered them confused people into the stairwell. In retrospect, I recall seeing Harry, my head trader, doing the same several yards behind me.

I am only thirty-five ……. ” (Page 166). When Mayblum did this we how much of a brave person he is. He saved the lives of many people and helped direct people to getting out of the building. Being a social worker I can relate to this because I will have to direct many families into the right path and be able to counsel them. With being a social worker guiding and coaching children are a major part. Like how Mayblum guided his friends and co-workers being a social worker I can guide people into the right path. In the future being a social worker will be a hard job and painful to observe children getting abused.

But it will be worth it to save them from being abused. To express this voice to me is to help many people who are in danger that you know. Just at least telling someone and caring is a great way to express it. As long as there are people who are able to help. In Mayblum’s essay “The Price We Pay”, Adam Mayblum did many heroic things to help people exist from the the attack. When reading the reading the essay one feeling he was a very caring person which the reader was connected to. The reader feels connected due to majoring in social work and saving the lives and counseling children. Therefore the readers voice is shared.
