Who had control?

England gained control of the slave trade under the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713, and managed the cargo of slaves to Spanish settlements. As the settlements gained independency from Spain, they outlawed bondage, and shortly slaves were most in demand in North America, peculiarly on plantations. Few were fortunate plenty to be house retainers ; most performed humble labour in the Fieldss.

How did it stop?

As far back as the mid-1500s, Jean Bodin, a Gallic political philosopher, condemned the establishment of bondage as immoral and unnatural. Few held the same sentiment until the late eighteenth century, when emancipationist motions began to turn in Europe and the British settlements of the Americas. England abolished the slave trade by 1807. In America, the issue of bondage led to the bloody American Civil War and the add-on of the Thirteenth Amendment to the Constitution, which abolished bondage in the United States.
