The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka is a novelette. The subject in this narrative is that alteration in one character leads to positive and negative alteration in other characters. Gregor Samsa. the chief character alterations into droppings beetle. His alteration affects his household deeply and they make both positive and negative alterations to suit both his alteration and themselves. The household resents Gregor and sees him as a load. which is a negative alteration. but antecedently the household had relied on Gregor as their beginning of income. This is where the struggle arises because now they have to larn to work for themselves alternatively of trusting on Gregor for income. which is finally a great positive alteration.

The family’s initial reaction towards Gregor is mostly highly negative. When the household and the main clerk. Gregor’s foreman. see him for the first clip they panic. Gregor is quickly shoved back into his room and he is locked at that place. “No one came any thirster. and. in add-on. the keys were now on the outside” ( page 25 ) . This represents the family’s immediate ill will towards Gregor where as before Gregor’s household had ever taken attention of him. Gregor’s sister. Grete notices that Gregor is larning to travel about. this is a positive alteration. She decided that traveling furniture out of Gregor’s room would give him more room to travel about. and she asks for her mother’s aid. Gregor sees his female parent and sister taking away the last hints of his humanity. In a predicament of despair he sticks himself to a image on the wall. Grete is annoyed and tells him to acquire off. and when Gregor’s female parent gimmicks sight of Gregor she is so scared she swoons. Grete terrors because she is disquieted about her female parent. and Gregor follows her to acquire medical specialty for their female parent.

In the thick of all this pandemonium Mr. Samsa comes place. A positive alteration in his visual aspect is seen. Gregor had seen him as “…the same adult male who would lie tiredly. buried in bed. …who had received him have oning a bathrobe and sitting in an arm chair…” ( page 37 ) . Where every bit now Gregor’s male parent “…was absolutely erect. dressed in a tight blue uniform” ( page 37 ) . Although Mr. Samsa’s visual aspect and his geting a occupation is a positive alteration his reaction towards Gregor is negative. Gregor’s male parent assumed that Gregor had done something violent and he was so ferocious he threw an apple at Gregor. Mr. Samsa throwing the apple was besides a negative alteration because this was his boy he was wounding.

The alteration in the family’s behaviour towards Gregor had become progressively negative. Gregor’s female parent and Grete had obtained occupations. and Gregor saw how tired and overworked the household was going. In the beginning Grete took careful clip to feed Gregor and clean his room. but as she worked she hurriedly shoved nutrient into Gregor’s room as she ran away. The resentment of the household peaked. and Grete even wished for Gregor to decease. “And hence I simply say: we have to seek to acquire rid of it” ( page 47 ) . Where antecedently Gregor had been deceasing physically he had accepted that he was a load on the household and he was besides deceasing emotionally. He accepted his face and dies peacefully. When the household finds Gregor dead they are relieved and grateful they don’t have to cover with him any longer. Gregor deceasing had a positive consequence on the household because now they were relieved of the load that they had been given.

The household learned how to work for themselves. yet in the procedure they treated Gregor ill. the first being positive but their intervention of Gregor being negative. If one individual changes it go necessary for the people around them to alter every bit good. Often times those alterations made can be positive or negative. Gregor’s alteration greatly affected the household and it became necessary for the household trade with the alteration. The alterations they made were mostly negative and non good towards Gregor. The household was unwilling to do positive alterations in their behaviour towards Gregor which resulted finally in his decease. This shows that whatever alterations people choose to do. either positive or negative. the alterations will ever hold a great consequence on everyone around them.
