about four characters each with different positions on lasting. Every adult male in the

universe can associate to one of the three secondary characters in the novel

Rescue. Work force can associate to Lewis Medlock for his crude positions, Drew for

his reason, or Bobby for his deficiency of ability to last. Many people say

that Lewis is the adult male that most work forces want to be like, Drew is the adult male that most

work forces are like, and Bobby is the adult male that most work forces fear going. Lewis is the

adult male most work forces want to be because he does non depend on anyone or anything. He

loves a challenge and will make anything he can to populate life to its fullest extent.

Ed Gentry, the cardinal character, represents all in the manner he looks up to

Lewis and strives to be like him. Most work forces fall into the same class as Drew

because their ability to last has been clouded by rational ideas. Then

there is Bobby. Most work forces do non desire to be linked with Bobby because he can non

live without aid from civilisation. Even though these characters posses many

of the same traits, their chief differences are in their ability to last life.

They besides have different positions on life. Lewis sees life as a game that you must

invariably challenge if you are to last. Drew sees life as a battle that

him through it. All three of these characters possess traits that can be

Because he sees life in this mode he believes that he must invariably

challenge himself merely to do certain he is self sufficient. & # 8220 ; He & # 8217 ; s nuts about

roughing it & # 8221 ; ( Warren ) . Even though Lewis has a strong ability to last

whatever life might convey upon him, he is non unsighted to the fact that he can

still be hurt even with aid from others. This is most apparent when he says,

independent. Drew represents a bulk of the population because he lets his

Finally there is Bobby, who represents the adult male we all fright of going. Bobby

is wholly dependent on other people and machines. Without either he would

non be able to last. Bobby, unlike Lewis and Drew, sees life without any

dangers, and because he does non see the dangers he walks blindly through life.

He has a weak head and is easy persuaded. He is unlike Drew and Lewis in the

fact that he has ne’er been forced to depend merely upon himself. During his

full life he has had person to take attention of him. The scene after they find

Drew & # 8217 ; s organic structure shows Bobby & # 8217 ; s inability to last. After seeing Drew & # 8217 ; s organic structure, Bobby

began to conceal his caput, and loses control of his head. Bobby represents the

dependant on other people and machines that he can no longer map. Ever

When Lewis breaks his leg and either Bobby or Lewis must mount the drop to
