The article The Oldest Old talks about how people age 90 and above manage to stay robust and mentally fit as compared to people younger than them by twenty years. Given the said premise, the author advised for a thorough review of planning programs for the old ones as this population group might be discarded as economic burden. Thus, the title Growing Old to be Young is a better title for the article.

First, the title attacks the stereotype for old people: a nation’s load, and gives the ironic impression that being old is still advantageous and beneficial. The proposed title also sounds catchy since people will wonder what it is in growing old that makes someone regarded as young. After reading the article, it then makes me feel that growing old is not a bad thing at all. In being old, it is still possible to gain value and acceptance from people around since one can still offer his strength and cognition.

This stage in life should not be taken as terrifying. On one hand, the article Longevity: The Ultimate Gender Gap talks about how hormones and lifestyle affect the longevity of American men and women. The author proposes that American women can live five years longer than American men. With this, I personally believe that gender gap will never be closed. Although men and women can gain the same lifestyle, men and women still possess different hormones.

This factor can never be altered even the modern interventions in health and science. Therefore, gender gap one hundred years from now is still the one as it is being perceived today. There might occur changes with the way both genders are seen, particularly on terms of gender equality. However, these transformations will not change the fact that men and women are biologically and socially different from one another. Because of this, both genders will gain varied outcomes as they grow old.
