The United States during the 1890’s wanted to get as much control as it could at the disbursal of other states. This desire was felt greatly in states found in Latin America and Asia. The location and size of Latin American and Asiatic states caught the attending of the United States where they began to hold an involvement and desire to suppress the former states. The influence of Alfred Mahan extended to the mode of conquering that the United States was to set about. The sea power influence was used by the great state in order to foster their aims of obtaining control over Latin America and Asiatic states.

The US was able to command the Canal Zone and this was critical to their chase for power. The Philippines was one of those Asiatic states greatly affected by the US quest for power. The Filipino Insurrection resulted to fierce military conflict between these two states where a batch of lives were lost with many untold agonies. ( Insurrection in the Philippines ) The US succeeded in suppressing the Philippines where Theodore Roosevelt became the First Governor General.
