But Steinbeck defines “family” as a unit with members who think of other members before themselves. and Ma expresses this thought clearly with Granma’s decease. The Joads have a connexion where each member truly has person to hold their back when in demand. Tom portions this with Casy and Al. Ma and Granma. Pa with Granpa and Uncle John. Ruthie and Winfield. With the desert. what comes to mind is the desert that Jesus traveled through for 40 yearss and 40 darks. and as he traveled he was tempted legion times by the Satan. And one thing to maintain in head is that God forced Jesus to walk and pray in the desert. As Jesus was forced to go in the desert so were the Joads by the officer. I see the enticements as the conditions that the Joads were going with. deficiency of nutrient. heat. small money etc. Just like the enticements from the Satan. and the conditions of the Joads. they were suppose halt them from go oning on with their journey and to give up. But alternatively merely like Jesus did. the Joads overcame the desert and won against the Satan and that’s where the running over the serpent comes in.
