The novel The Killer Angles, by Michael Shaara, gives a narrative like word picture of the
American Civil War at the Battle of Gettysburg. In this novel we see the positions of both
Confederate and Union ground forcess. The officers for both sides in this novel used to travel to
war with each other but are now on different sides harmonizing to their political positions. In
the terminal both ground forcess realized the war had accomplished nil but all the deceases of
soldiers. During the novel, the ground forcess are traveling to war against their oppositions and non
needfully their enemies.
Despite the fact that the Confederate and Union ground forcess were wholly concerned with
get the better ofing their opposition, many times they were contending against relations and friends.
For case, General Armistead says, & # 8220 ; & # 8230 ; will you state General Hancock how really regretful I
am & # 8221 ; ( P.350 ) . General Hancock is a Confederate Major General while Armistead is a Union
Commanding officer. These two work forces were at one clip friends. Again during the war, officers
do a realisation about the war. Longstreet realizes that Armistead and Garnett are
dead and that Kemper was deceasing ( P.358 ) . Then he sees the true facts that this war
had accomplished nil but the deceases of great work forces.
Shaara & # 8217 ; s theory was that the war accomplished nil but deceases. This theory has
been considered before by many work forces, most likely the work forces of the war. George
Pickett
knows the war is non merely about bondage ( P. 71 ) . In the Battle of Gettysburg 1000s
of work forces died for about nil. Of class the chief cause of the war was bondage, but
other fortunes contributed to the cause of the civil war, such as the election of
Abraham Lincoln.
This book contributes a elaborate description and narrative of the Battle of Gettysburg.
Many books about Gettysburg give a life about the conflict and the commanding officers,
but this book makes the commanding officers and soldiers come to life. It shows existent feelings
about the war. While most books give a narrative soliloquy of the conflict. This book
brings characters to life and gives a elaborate description of the conflict.
This novel has raised inquiries in my head because I was unaware of the existent conflict ;
but it raises no new inquiries to society such as Hofstadter & # 8217 ; s Hagiographas. This fresh gives
a really accurate description of the Battle of Gettysburg. This novel besides shows the
importance of each conflict and each division in each of these conflicts. Furthermore this
novel shows the importance of strategic placement. If the brotherhood ground forces was non keeping
that advantageous place, it would hold been really hard to win the conflict.
The Killer Angels, is a really singular novel that I enjoyed reading really much. This
novel is worthwhile when reading about the Battle of Gettysburg during category. This book
makes the conflict semen to life, which the category books can non make.
