& # 8220 ; The Storm & # 8221 ; and & # 8220 ; The Story of an Hour & # 8221 ; expresses the attitudes of two adult females & # 8217 ; s

metempsychosis and release. These two narratives are likewise in several ways. Natures plays a major

function in both of these adult females & # 8217 ; s lives. Calixta and Mrs. Louise Mallard battle to happen

their independency and in making so the terminations are exultant and tragic.

& # 8220 ; The Storm & # 8221 ; begins on a stormy spring twenty-four hours, with the supporter Calixta at her run uping machine. She is entirely, her hubby Bobinot and boy Bibi have gone to the shop. Calixta seems to be a world-weary adult female, confined to her responsibilities as a homemaker and female parent. As the distant storm attacks she is incognizant of what the storm brings, her former lover Alcee. Calixta allows Alcee into her place and opens her whole universe to him. There is a connexion between the storm that is traveling on outside and the storm of emotions traveling on in Calixta and Alcee. The conditions sends Calixta into Alcee & # 8217 ; s weaponries, he wraps his weaponries around her, and they can no longer conceal their feelings for one another. They gave into their raging emotions and made love. Outside the conditions was lessening and Calixta and Alcee & # 8217 ; s organic structures felt relaxed and calmed. & # 8220 ; The rain was over ; and the Sun was turning the glistening green universe into a castle of gems. & # 8221 ; ( 1614 ) His face beamed with visible radiation like the Sun. The storm interior of her was satisfied and for a brief instant Calixta felt liberated from her ordinary dull life.

Unlike Calixta, Louise Mallard is a delicate adult female afflicted with bosom problem. It comes to her attending through a trusty friend that her hubby, Brently Mallard has been killed in a railway catastrophe. She is overcome with intense heartache and immediately weeps over the loss of her hubby. Mrs. Mallard retreats to the purdah of her sleeping room to

mourn the decease of her hubby. Suddenly she feels a sense of release. Nature besides plays a portion in Mrs. Mallard experiencing the manner she does, merely as it did with Calixta in & # 8220 ; The Storm. & # 8221 ; Mrs. Mallard has merely learned of a atrocious decease but yet she could non assist but see that the trees were blossoming with new spring life ; there was new fallen rain, and birds were singing. Often she had non. What did it affair! & # 8221 ; ( 21 ) It seems as if she is seeking to convert herself there is nil incorrect with her feeling this manner. There was something about the idea of life for herself, she would no longer hold anyone to reply to, she was free to be herself, and most of all free to love once more. & # 8220 ; Free! Body and soul free! & # 8221 ; ( 21 ) Mrs. Mallard was non doing herself sick as her sister had thought. She was taking in an elixir of life. It was about as is her organic structure had been healed. The heavy weight that was one time on her thorax and bosom had been lifted. Louise emerges from her sleeping room a liberated adult female

and as she descends the steps she is brought back to world by Brently Mallard opening the forepart door. She collapses and dies possibly from the daze of losing her freedom one time once more.

& # 8220 ; The Storm & # 8221 ; and & # 8220 ; The Story of an Hour & # 8221 ; stop really otherwise. & # 8220 ; The Storm & # 8221 ; ends on a happy note with the household holding a banquet of a dinner and express joying so loud anyone might hold heard them. She is more disquieted about her personal addition instead than the decease of her hubby. In the terminal her sightlessness to mortality smacks her in the face. For now she is the one being mourned.

The adult females in these narratives have limited freedom. They were married during a clip when it was non uncommon for adult females to raise many kids, cook, clean, wash, and work on the farm.
