The Value of Literature

Literature can hold many and different values on a individual. It is all depending on the narrative and the value or moral issue the writer wants, you, the reader to acquire out of it. The value literature had on me was really difficult to set into words. But to understand the value of literature you must cognize the definition of value and literature. Value has many significances but there is two that relate. Worth in utility or importance to the owner and a rule, standard, or quality considered worthwhile or desirable. Literature is a organic structure of Hagiographas in prose or poetry. Literature produces value because it is fundamentally an analysis of an experience or state of affairs. I got a different value out of each narrative.

With Mark Twain & # 8217 ; s The Adventure of Huckleberry Finn it showed me that one does non hold to be civilized or conform to the thoughts of society to go civilized or mature. With Huck Finn he ran off from everything that was considered civilised. He had nil and truly did non desire anything. But at the same clip he experienced and matured life perilously. This made me value Huck & # 8217 ; s escapade and take it as my ain. Huck proves his adulthood when he remarks on how the male monarch and duke dupe the villagers into believing that they are the dead adult male & # 8217 ; s brothers, and Huck says, & # 8220 ; I ne’er see anything so disgusting. & # 8221 ; ( Twain 163 ) Even though the male monarch and duke commit an atrocious act on the villagers he still feels sorry for them when they get tarred. Huck remarks, & # 8220 ; Human existences can be atrocious cruel to one another. & # 8221 ; ( Twain 225 )

In William Faulkner & # 8217 ; s Barn Burning it told of

a adult male named Abner Snopes who burned barns when disturbance or mad. This was his manner of acquiring back at them. “Barn Burning” has two really apparent battles. Abner oppresses his household merely as the upper category has oppressed him. “Barn Burning” to me is based on misdirected choler. Which is fundamentally go oning in these yearss. For illustration, a adolescent and his parents have it out, he leaves, and now his choler is directed toward anything in his tract. “Barn Burning” has a value in that it shows in life that people really misdirect their choler. Such as in the school shots and bomb menaces that have occurred in the past twosome of old ages. Merely like Abner Snopes felt like an foreigner to the upper category, so did the pupils who committed these violent Acts of the Apostless.

In & # 8220 ; The Swimmer & # 8221 ; , it made me value life and what it brings. Because if your non careful or you do non watch out it will past you up without notice. As with & # 8220 ; Everyday Use & # 8221 ; , one of the girls did non value who she was or whom she was because she was traveling out looking for her history. Which she already had at her fingertips.

Reading all of the literature this semester has broadened my mentality on life. It has made me recognize that there are a batch of things that we as people in this society take for granted. Literature has made me value a batch of experiences and state of affairss ; I did non cognize about until I read all of the short narratives by assorted writers with different manners and positions of things. It is eldritch how the literature that has been written in the yesteryear still has an influence on what occurrences in today & # 8217 ; s society. We can repeat the same thoughts, values, and ethical motives into what is traveling on today.
