The text as I see it has two subjects: Homosexuality and society today ( in the 1890ss ) . The relationship between Jaz and Tony as depicted in the narrative clearly shows that a homosexual relationship in many ways resembles a heterosexual relationship. Jaz and Tony have their occasional differences as would any other twosome & # 8211 ; everything is normal. Yet they face some jobs other twosomes would non. For illustration, it seems that Jaz has no contact ( at least non really much ) with his household any longer. This sudden loss of contact with his household must come as a great surprise to him as he reacts really strongly to it. We are ne’er told why Jaz & # 8217 ; household did non reach him that Christmas, but my conjecture would be that they did it on intent, possibly by order of the male parent who was really much against Jaz traveling in with Tony.
