In the short narrative “On the Sidewalk Bleeding” by Evan Hunter. we learn that the chief character of the narrative. Andy. is fighting to take his jacket while he lay in an back street hemorrhage. We besides learned that it was really painful for Andy to travel. allow alone take off the silk jacket. but he did so anyhow. The jacket he wore symbolized his belonging to a metropolis pack called The Royals. Andy wanted to take his jacket in his last minutes because he did non desire people to believe of him as being merely another member of The Royals ; he wanted to be remembered as Andy. Andy did non desire to be portrayed as merely another immature adolescent who was caught up in metropolis pack force. but as himself ; and so he tried to take it. Andy knew that if he died. he would no longer be a Royal. but merely merely Andy.
While lying in the back street. Andy realized that the lone ground a member of The Guardians. their opposing pack. stabbed him was because of his violet silk jacket that had the words “The Royals” stitched to the dorsum of it. The words of his aggressor continuously repeated in his head ; “That’s for you Royal! ” Andy knew that the knife that cut through him did non detest Andy. but hated the jacket. Andy realized that the rubric of being a Royal was no longer as of import to him as it one time was.
The jacket he had one time worn with pride had meant nil to him. and was the cause of the stabbing that occurred. Andy wondered why he thought the battles. the leaps and the purple jacket were one time so of import to him. While he was deceasing. he eventually realized that being a Royal was non deserving it because he had merely wasted his clip. Andy all of a sudden felt as though he had ne’er done anything. seen anything or been anyplace. Although it was painful for Andy to take the jacket. he did so in his last minutes because he had realized how stupid being portion of a pack was. Andy struggled to take his jacket from his rear because he no longer wanted to be portion of pack force. Andy did non desire to be a Royal.
