Chapter 9- Effective Participation ( Wilson 253-255 )

What:

I will travel through each of the five classs under effectual engagement and state what I observed on our group for each one.

First- I think each member of our group was committed to make their best as clip and resources allowed. Each contributed to the group in meetings and in presentations. Keith frequently was the leader behind our group presentations. I would state that he ever was but I & # 8217 ; m non certain that my memory is accurate. He came up with the thoughts for the presentations that we ended up utilizing, he coordinated them, made certain that everyone knew what they were making and that they were traveling to make their portion and be at that place on the twenty-four hours of the presentation. Charley did his portion well and helped lend thoughts and suggestions for ways of showing. Jessica and Salena came through and completed every assignment that they were given. When given parts to make for presentations they did them.

Second- In our group members had differing ends that they wanted to carry through. Though as it became closer to the due day of the month of the concluding I think those ends became more the same but because of these differences it is hard to find for certain if every group member was committed to the good of the group or non. Over all I think the common end of the group particularly towards the terminal was to finish the concluding. This end was shared both as a group and separately and the group was used to assist all of the persons complete the concluding.

Third- Our group did non cover much with facts and sentiments that would do much tenseness as it might hold had it been formed in an organisation. But when it came to how to make the concluding struggle arose as different members had different thoughts of how to make the concluding. As persons expressed the manner they saw that it was supposed to be done struggle ensued.

Fourth- the best illustration I saw of possible competition in our group, though it didn & # 8217 ; t damage the group, was between Charley and Keith. They frequently competed on thoughts as to whose thought would be used, or whose was the best, what of all time it may hold been. I & # 8217 ; m non certain of any other illustrations of viing.

Fifth- I think everyone at one clip or another in our group has non been every bit good a hearer as they could hold been. I recall on one juncture when one member of the group accused another member of non listening to them. The best hearer in our group though would hold to be Jessica whether she chose

With in our little group there was strong coherence between the females and between the males. Besides the gender issue I think this coherence was stronger because from the beginning of the semester the misss normally sat together and the cats normally sat together. Though there was coherence between these two there was non strong coherence between the group as a whole. As a group, things that contributed to our coherence were: similar involvement in the mission of the group, success in giving our presentations, and most members of the group were successful in finishing the group end, which was to finish 5 ratings of our selected groups.

Why:

Each member was committed to make their best because of the people we were and because at least half of the group felt that there was force per unit area to be every bit close to a perfect group as could be. This thought pushed us to be committed to making our best and in a sense it hurt us, in that we felt hindered to make anything that might interrupt that shell of behaving and being as near to a perfect group as possible.

In our group there was non adequate treatment about our ends, sing what we thought needed to go on in our group, other than finishing 5 ratings of our groups. Because we didn & # 8217 ; Ts make certain, that as a group there was consensus, as to what needed to be achieved, in our group, we had separate ends that didn & # 8217 ; T ever agree with each other. This caused trouble in the group, which undermined group coherence.

How:

A batch of the troubles that arose in the coherence of our group could be helped by more communicating between the members, a clearer end out line, and the usage of better hearing accomplishments.

If we as a group made clear and concise ends, and took the clip to do certain that consensus was achieved it would increase that success of our group and aid minimise possible beginnings of confliction which would assist in our group coherence.

Better and more communicating coupled with good hearing accomplishments, would assist unclutter jobs with differing thoughts between members. If we listened to each other the manner described by Gerald Wilson, in his book & # 8220 ; Groups In Context & # 8221 ; , we would hold to step out of our egos and our ain thoughts, and truly look at the other individual & # 8217 ; s thought. Communication would better greatly which would besides assist our group coherence. Professor Van Den Bosche gave a chart that illustrates how these thoughts work in a group.
