I do non believe that everything Pericles said in his funeral Oration was true. Pericles goes on and on about how great the Athens city state had become a strong democratic authorities. “He besides talks about how they accept everyone into their city-state and give them the same rights as the Athens people irrespective if they are foreigners” . “Pericles even compares his city state to that of the Spartans ; while utilizing calumniatory and slandering words to depict their culture” . Pericles believes from reading his Oration that the Athens are better people because of their equally of all in their metropolis province and the freedom they have given their people.

Pericles fails to see the contradiction in the civilization and in the oration of the Speech he gives about the Athens manner of life and this is because he is biased towards the work forces. Obviously everyone being equal is non true because adult female is non equal to work forces and is surely non treated as peers. “Pericles states himself that it is better for adult female to ne’er be spoken of whether it is glory or criticism” . He states that a woman’s topographic point is in her place. the lone occupations that are available to adult females are to bare kids and to keep the family. other than that everything else merely a adult male should and could make.

The fact that adult females are treated otherwise proves that the Athens were non a democratic province their Torahs to supply equity to all the people were merely catered to the males non the females. The Athens had a negative attitude towards adult female and how they should be treated. Pericles seemed about disgusted to even hold to turn to adult female in his address and when he did he had nil positive to state about them. Pericles exaggerates in his oration. He depicts a perfect image of what the Athens society is thought to be. as if the people and the jurisprudence have no imperfectnesss that need to be spoken of.

He illustrates a great city state with no defects but so continues to depict and talk of adult females as if they were non human and favoritism against them was normal. Pericles was in bereavement and wanted to give the dead soldiers and their households and all the people of the city state the award and assurance they needed to go on on with the war so he exaggerated. he did non desire to disgrace the soldier with his words so he chose to talk of their civilization and everything they stood for. Coming from a leader’s position I think the political orientation may be somewhat off but much of it was true from the Athens civilization and society.
