The Cask of Amontillado
Drumhead: The narrative begins with Montresor, the storyteller, stating how he had been injured by Fortunato? 1000s? of times, but when he was insulted by him, he wanted retaliation. He decided to utilize Fortunato? s weak point, all right vinos, against him, since Fortunato prided himself on his virtu of vino. So, one twenty-four hours during the carnival season, Montresor sees Fortunato and tells him that he has a pipe of what he believes is Amontillado and would wish him to come seek it to see if it is. Montresor tells him that if he is busy or his cough is excessively bad, he can inquire Luchresi, but Fortunato says that? Luchresi can non state Amontillado from Sherry, ? and he will be able to travel. They start out for Montresor? s house since the vino is in the vaults of his house. None of the retainers are place since it is the carnival season and Montresor gave them off and told them non to come back until the forenoon ; so he could acquire his retaliation without them cognizing. As they walk through the catacombs, Fortunato? s cough gets worse and worse and Montresor repeatedly asks him if he wants to travel back, but Fortunato refuses. Montresor besides keeps giving Fortunato more intoxicant as they continue to walk through the labrynthic catacombs to acquire him drunk. When they eventually got to the vino, Fortunato began to imbibe it and as he did, Montreso
R began to construct a brick wall at the entryway to the niche. After he finished the first grade though, he noticed that Fortunato wasn? T every bit rummy as he though he would be. He began to rush up and construct up the wall more and more until he was about done and Fortunato got to the wall. Fortunato took it as a gag and told him to take it down, but he didn? T and kept traveling until he had merely one more brick to set in. At this point, Montresor tossed the torch in and put the last brick in.
Fictional characters: Montresor: The proprietor of the Amontillado who uses it to acquire retaliation on Fortunato, the adult male who insulted him. He lures Fortunato into his household? s vaults and so pin down him by constructing a brick wall.
Fortunato: The adult male who injured Montresor? 1000s? of times and insulted him hence doing his decease because Montresor took retaliation on him. He is esteemed as a connisseur of all right vinos and is taking portion in the? lunacy of the carnival season? and is lured into the vaults because he is rather intoxicated.
Luchresi: He is ne’er really in the narrative, but is mentioned because Montresor offers to inquire him about the vino if Fortunato is excessively busy.
Gothic Elementss: The Gothic elements in this narrative come merely from the fact that it takes topographic point largely at dark in the dark and besides in the dark, eerie catacombs at Montresor? s house where his household members are buried.
