The Giver by Lois Lowry
The Giver is a fiction novel about a male child named Jonas and his life
in a perfect universe of? Sameness? . In this universe there were no colourss,
feelings, or picks. In this universe everything was decided by the
Commitee of Elders and took topographic point in a pompous manner. There was
the Matching of Spouses and the Naming and Placement of new
kids. There was besides a ceremonial of Nines where all the Nines
received their motorcycles and the Ceremony of Twelve? s where they
received their life long businesss.
In the beginning of the narrative, Jonas was a normal male child who was
nervous about the approaching Ceremony of Twelve? s. He was dying
to happen out what occupation he would be executing for the remainder of his life ( or
at least until he was? released? when he turned 70 old ages old ) . Even
though he felt discerning about the ceremonial, it helped for him to
talk about it at the every night negotiations about feelings. Everyone had to state
how the felt during the twenty-four hours after supper was eaten.
They spoke of feelings as if they were existent even though they
hold ne’er really had a feeling. Cipher in the community was
permitted to hold confidential feelings for another individual either.
When they began traveling through pubescence or what they called? stirrings?
they had to get down taking a pill daily for the remainder of their lives. Both
males and females had? stirrings? which normally began with a dream
and had to be reported instantly.
It was eventually the large twenty-four hours of the Ceremony of Twelve? s. Jonas
heard narratives about old ceremonials that didn? T help the nervous

following. The assignments continued and Jonas became more and more

He wasn? t certain what it meant and he felt dizzy. The Chief Elder would
ne’er do a error particularly at the Ceremony of Twelve? s.
When the last Assignment was given the crowd cheered, but
susurrations of confusion filled the room. What had Jonas done incorrectly?
After the hand clapping quieted, the Chief Elder began talking. He
Announced that Jones would be the new Receiver-in-Training. He
went on that Jonas was chosen because he had all the qualities, such
as, intelligence, unity, and bravery. For the first clip Jonas felt
di
fferent, but he besides was disquieted that he would hold to insulate himself
from his friends and household. The Chief Elder promised that his
Assignment would give him great wisdom though.
Jonas no longer had to take his medical specialty to command his
? stirrings? . He began his preparation instantly and was surprised to

locked and the Giver was the lone individual who had books. He found
out that his occupation was to have all the memories of life that the Giver
entirely held for the community. He learned that cipher in the
community had feelings, saw colour, or made picks. The first
memory he received was of sled-ridding and snow. He received many
memories of good and bad things and began seeing colourss. He
realized that Fiona? s hair was ruddy. It angered him when he heard his
household Tell of their feelings because he knew they didn? Ts have any.
The most atrocious thing Jonas experienced during his preparation
was the? release? of a babe male child. The male child was a twin and merely weighed
5 pound. 10 oz. The ordinance weight for a babe was 6 pound. The babe was
considered an unequal runt and Jonas? s male parent was ordered to
? release? him.
Jonas watched as his male parent as he cleaned the babe and made
him comfy. He so opened a closet and removed a syringe and a
little bottle. He began to make full the syringe with the clear liquid. His
father carefully infix the acerate leaf into the top of the babe? s caput to
let go of the liquid in his vena. The babe squirmed and went hitch.
Jonas was horrified. He hated his male parent for killing the babe even
though he didn? t understand what he was making.
Jonas found out that Gabriel was traveling to be? released? and
Jonas decided to run off to another universe named? Elsewhere? .
Jonas planned to run off in the center of the dark before the
Ceremony because the dark clip attender wouldn? T be working.
Jonas grabbed Gabriel and was on his manner to Elsewhere. When he
left? Sameness? all the memories he had received would be given to
the community and terror would interrupt loose.
Jonas eventually made it to Elsewhere, but faced jobs on the
manner such as, hungriness, coldness, and bad conditions. As Jonas and
Gabriel were come ining Elsewhere on the sled they heard people
vocalizing and knew that they were waiting for them. ? Behind him,
across huge distances of infinite and clip, from the topographic point he had left,
he thought he heard music excessively. But possibly it was merely an reverberation, ? and
Jonas and Gabriel entered Elsewhere. What happened in the universe of
? Sameness? will ne’er be known.
