Role Reversal
Throughout William Shakespeare & # 8217 ; s play Hamlet, the audience attaches to the immature supporter Hamlet. Throughout the drama, his humor, and his underdog state of affairs, oblige the audience to root for him, and therefore wishing evil upon his enemy, Claudius. As the drama progresses, Claudius seems weasel-like as he rubs the state of affairs in Hamlet & # 8217 ; s face, and indulges in effete rites while basking his disgraceful throne. In act three, scene three, nevertheless, the low side of Claudius is seeable for the first clip. As he prays for forgiveness in his monologue, we see that he genuinely regrets his vindictive offense. The contrast is apparent. Despite earlier character expoundings, the contrast of a praying adult male and a adult male with a blade makes Hamlet look evil and Claudius appear pure. The scene speaks for itself. This self-contradictory state of affairs puts the spectator or reader in suspense, possibly even confusion. However, it limits the predictability, and by this creates a more interesting scenario.
