There are yearss that it would be nice outside and I & # 8217 ; ll travel out for a walk ; I & # 8217 ; vitamin D either travel to the park up the block, the Bodega ( a Spanish food market shop ) at the corner, or a friend & # 8217 ; s house. I would walk down the pavement and it & # 8217 ; s like I & # 8217 ; m a celebrated individual or an expensive auto the manner cat around me would move, and the thing is that it happens to all adult females. You get the “ expressions ” by the cat across the street, the “ stare ” by the work forces driving by, the “ whistlings ” from the group of cat & # 8217 ; s sitting on stepss as I walk by, and so there & # 8217 ; s the occasional “ neck-break ” when a cat walks by me. All that attending is really uplifting to some and tolerable by most, but when a cat crosses the line and really talk his head, that & # 8217 ; s when he becomes a male chauvinist hog. In the short narrative “ A & A ; P ” by John Updike it & # 8217 ; s chief character Sammy didn & # 8217 ; t traverse the line on being a male chauvinist hog.
From the minute the three girls- ” Queenie ” , “ that chunky one ” , and “ the tall 1 ” – entered the supermarket he acted like a normal typical adult male, Sammy couldn & # 8217 ; t maintain his eyes off them. So much in fact that the miss & # 8217 ; s were a large distraction, “ I stood there with my manus on a box of HiHo crackers seeking to retrieve if I rang it up or non ” ( 421 ) . He watched the misss every motion as if they were the lone thing that mattered to him at that clip ; “ ? the misss had circled around the staff of life and were coming back? “ ( 421 ) , “ ? and so they all three of them went up the cat-and-dog-food-breakfast-cereal-macaroni-rice-raisins-seasonings-spreads-spaghetti-soft-drinks-crackers-and-cookies aisle. He wasn & # 8217 ; t rude and commented the chunky miss & # 8217 ; s can to her face, or discussed her can with Stokesie, and he didn & # 8217 ; t speak about its size and what he would make with it. He kept it clean and to himself. It & # 8217 ; s besides evident that he & # 8217 ; s non a male chauvinist hog when the misss got to the meat counter, “ All that was left to see was old McMahon chucking his oral cavity and looking after them sizing up their articulations. Poor childs I began to experience sorry for them ” ( 423 ) . Sammy admired their beauty, McMahon acted like they were objects, and Sammy saw that and that & # 8217 ; s why he felt bad.
Sammy besides quit his occupation because of the manner they were treated. Actually he did it to affect the misss. The line of being a typical adult male and a male chauvinist hog is so thin.
