The paper narrates an interview conducted between a corporate individual belonging to a multinational bank such as the Royal Bank of Scotland. The bank seems to be looking for fresh graduates to induct into their treasury department, one of the most crucial functions of a bank. The interview would exhibit a portion of the technical side for testing the knowledge of the interviewee about the different aspects of treasury.

The Interview

Interviewer: Good morning. How are you doing today?

Interviewee: (with a smile) Good morning. I am doing well.

Interviewer: Would you please like to tell me about yourself?

Interviewee: Sure. My name is ABC and I am currently a student of Tennessee Tech University. I am gaining my Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from there and will graduate this July. I have my majors in Finance and MIS.

Interviewer: Why would you like to join this bank? And how would I benefit by hiring you?

Interviewee: Because I would like to obtain a challenging position with an active market participant that fully utilizes my capabilities, abilities and experience in the field of Finance and MIS. I believe that I have the ability to use teamwork and financial understanding to crate new opportunities and developments in your bank.

Interviewer: Ok, this is about your educational side; tell me something personal about yourself such as what your interests are and what you do in your spare time.

Interviewee: Well, I am a sportsman at heart. I have played sports since the age of 13 and received several awards for the same. In my spare time, I like to read books and watch TV.

Interviewer: What kind of books do you like to read?

Interviewee: Mostly fiction, however sometimes I do get my hands on true stories or biographies of presidents and celebrities.

Interviewer: How would you describe yourself in three words?

Interviewee: I would consider myself to be outspoken, confident and friendly.

Interviewer: Define your strength and weakness.

Interviewee: My strength, as many have pointed out, is that I make friends easy and tend to get along with a diverse set of people. My weakness would be that I tend to be short tempered at times when my friends, or rather acquaintances, do not appreciate and rather back stab on my efforts for them. I then say whatever comes to mind at them, which does create pretty ugly situations.

Interviewer: Have you ever participated in a physical fight in your student life?

Interviewee:  Well, not exactly. I have helped friends get out of them; however, I have never been a front line participant in a fight.

Interviewer: Do you believe in revenge?

Interviewee: No, I believe that if someone is not polite with you, you should not take revenge with him / her in the same manner by providing a cold shoulder. Instead, you should remain as you are and I always remain polite, until and unless my patience is tested to the limit.

Interviewer: What is the one major achievement you have made in your student life?

Interviewee: To date, my biggest achievement would be my winning the presidential elections for the student body. I had one by a big margin and it is one of the most memorable times of my life.

Interviewer: What were your responsibilities as a president?

Interviewee: I was not a president of the student body, rather I was appointed as the treasurer of the student body. I was responsible for organizing events for the student body as well ensure that all the vendors who would be appointed for the events were paid on time. I was actually taking on the responsibility of a financial officer.

Interviewer: What skills did you learn from the experience?

Interviewee: Communication skills, negotiation skills, teamwork skills and budgeting skills.

Interviewer: How about a difficult situation in your student life that may have occurred and which you resolved successfully?

Interviewee: As I am a very social student on my campus, I have made several friends and helped them in their personal lives. However, the one story I can not forget is helping a friend adapt to his parents’ divorce. He had a tough time accepting it and it took him a good 3 months to believe that it actually happened for the better.

Interviewer: Sorry to hear about your friend.

Interviewer: What does this personal statement on your resume mean?

Interviewee: My statement “As we advance in life we learn the limits of our abilities” means that as I complete more projects in my student life, I learn the shortcomings of my knowledge.

Interviewer: What are the major projects you have completed?

Interviewee: I have worked on an online furniture shop for my MIS major and for my finance major; I completed a thorough company analysis on Burberry.

Interviewer: Thank you ABC. Would you like to ask me something? (Interviewee nods in refusal). Thank you for seeing me today. I will let you know about the outcome in two weeks time. Have a nice day.
