She had forbidden Kai and Janie talking Chinese, and she burned all their old memories, including Kai & # 8217 ; s old Calligraphy documents, and images of their female parent. Edna had invariably slapped Kai and Janie in an opprobrious mode, and subsequently Kai was being locked out of the house and forced to be in battles with the male childs in his vicinity.
Edna is wholly the antonym of what Kay and Janie & # 8217 ; s female parent used to be. Mah-mee used to be soft, and lovingness, while Edna was barbarous and rough toward the two kids in the family. She threw Kai out the door and refu

Through all this, Janie was the one demoing a strong character and standing up to Edna, while Kai decided he deserved all the bad things that had came to him. He accepted the fact that he is the 1 that should be beat up by the crowd, and he accepted her stepmother & # 8217 ; s opprobrious behaviours. It was until he had joined the YMCA that he realized and learned that it is all right to contend back.
