Dreams Their Analysis Essay, Research Paper
Dreams Their Analysis
The assignment is to remember a dream and analyse it from one or
two theoretical positions we & # 8217 ; ve learned therefore far in dream analysis. Dreams
have been a vehicle to show emotions, ideas and feelings. Sometimes they
pose inquiries which have been rooted in our witting. Dreams are personalized
plants which we have consciously directed and created in our heads and no 1
reading is right or incorrect. Weeks subsequently upon having this assignment I
had an unbelievable dream of my female parent of which I will ne’er bury.
It was a beautiful cheery twenty-four hours, non one cloud to deface the sky.
I remember this peculiar afternoon being warm and bright. The scenery seemed
to picture a station card perfect summer & # 8217 ; s twenty-four hours. My female parent and I were walking in a
park, a park I & # 8217 ; ve ne’er visited or seen. I felt as if anyone were to gaze at
us they could see the contentment and harmoniousness radiating from myself. I was
watching myself lay down on really soft green grass, but before I did I turned
around to see if my female parent was still near. I saw myself lay down under a tree.
This tree was unambiguously beautiful because of its thin distortion, about fragile
looking subdivisions. The tree was unusual for it was bare, there were no foliages,
nor was it green. The tree merely stood by itself coloured bare and bare for all
to witness. The birds of summer seemed to prefer this alone looking tree by
assemblage and sitting on its thin but strong subdivisions. I laid under this tree
looking up towards the birds experiencing happy. I heard myself express joying and
listening to these birds vocalizing. Where after I walked towards a pool, a adult male
made pool of grey marble brick. An huge wall run alonging a narrow stairwell was
to its left. My female parent was kneeling by the pool wading her manus merely above the
H2O, touching it really finely. This was her pool and her pool had the most
improbably beautiful bright fish. They consisted of aqua blue, xanthous and green
colored fish with fives that seemed to be every bit all right as hair as it floated towheads
my female parent & # 8217 ; s custodies. I watched myself watching her, experiencing as if I was occupying
a private minute and in awe of the spectacle I was witnessing.
We left the park and her pool and were on our manner place. As we
walked arm in arm the conditions seemed to be acquiring darker and colder. The
clouds turn overing in seemed to be compressing and endangering to steep us. We
arrived an immense span which was 100s of pess above a organic structure of cloudy H2O.
I felt threatened and didn & # 8217 ; t swear traversing this span and my female parent
instinctively new my fright and preceded to traverse, reassuring me it was safe. I
didn & # 8217 ; t traverse the span but watched her return her stairss entirely. She reached the
center of the span and it collapsed. I ran towards the border looking down at
my female parent as she was fighting to keep on and seeking to acquire a better clasp. She
was naming out my name, imploring me to assist her, but I merely stood there frozen
in silence and experiencing no emotion. I saw her fingers turn white as they lost
their clasp one by one, until she was keeping on with merely one manus. She turned
her caput to look at me one last clip before she lost the clasp in her other manus
and fell. I remember hearing no noise of her organic structure hitting the H2O, merely empty
silence, but the look of her face is etched into my memory.
Remembering this dream brings up emotions of guilt and was
painful to envision. There are many theoretical positions one can utilize to
analyze such dreams. Ultimately to happen a possible account or
reading of what dreams mean. I have looked closer into the plants of
Sigmund Freud to analyze what this all agencies and possibly happen an appropriate
analysis of my dream.
Freud is one of the most popular theoreticians today and has
developed many theoretical positions refering to personality. He organized
three degrees of mental life ; the unconscious, preconscious and the witting.
Simply put the unconscious is the unretrievable material in our memory, the
preconscious if the retrievable material and the witting if the material in current
consciousness.
Over lapping this construct is his three degrees of the head which
Ar
e the Id, Ego and Superego. The? Idaho? is a portion of the head which seeks
pleasance, it is irrational and non rooted in world. The? self-importance? serves the
world rule and is more rational and connected to world. Finally, we
hold the? superego? which is our moral and idealistic rule. It speaks as
your witting, judgment and doing you experience guilty. All these constructs display
sides of personality whether good or bad.
Freud believed that dreams or? Freudian faux pass? were a? disguised
agencies of showing unconscious urges or conceal desires. ? He gave greater
accent to that of the latent content over the manifest content. The latent
content being the unconscious stuff in our dream which reduces anxiousness.
Where as the manifest content is the surface significance or the dream as recalled by
the dreamer. Freud & # 8217 ; s basic premise was that all dreams are wish-
-fulfillment & # 8217 ; s.
Freud noted three typical anxiousness dreams: the embarrassment
dream of nudity, dreams of decease of a darling individual and dreams of neglecting an
test. In my instance I dreamt the decease of my female parent and felt guilty for non salvaging
her. Freud interprets the decease of an older individual such as a parent as
carry throughing the Oedipal want. During my dream I felt anxiousness and guilt which he
depicts as typical for grownups every bit good as kids. The female Oedipus composite
is a term used by Freud to bespeak feelings of ill will for the female parent and
sexual love for the male parent. Although I dreamt of decease, he states that I do non
needfully intend to hold a decease want for my female parent. I agree it could hold been
a contemplation of ill will towards her but disagree greatly with the
generalisation of sexual love for my male parent.
There was a important accent on the description of the tree.
The tree looked delicate, thin and bare. This could be interpreted harmonizing to
Freud as an anxiousness of the embarrassment dream of nudity. Adults repress the
desire to exhibit the nudity of oneself. Freud may hold interpreted the
tree as a contemplation of myself and the birds as witnesss. These peculiar
witnesss refrain from call on the carpeting and do me experience accepted and happy.
Dream content may be distorted through condensation and
supplanting harmonizing to Freud. Condensation is the compaction of several
thoughts of the latent manifest content. Condensation is embodied by three
features of compaction, skip and fragments. Compaction is the
latent content projecting itself towards the manifest content. Omission is a?
defender? which doesn & # 8217 ; t allow the latent component through. Fragments are pieces
of the latent component which does acquire through. Displacement is the displacement of
accent from of import to unimportant ( vice-versa ) in the manifest content or
the replacing of latent point with a distant point. My dreams seem to hold a
greater accent on the? nice & # 8217 ; things such as grass, trees, H2O and de-
emphasized the? dark & # 8217 ; side of the dream taking up to my female parent & # 8217 ; s autumn. Freud
concluded this structuralization of the dream to cut down fearful or anxiousness –
arousing state of affairss.
Sex is a repeating them in the plants of Freud and it is
believed to be the root job or feeling in our dreams. Nakedness and
gender besides play a major function in my dream which display symbolic significance,
psychoanalytic importance ( latent content ) . Freud generalized the manifest
content to ever associate to witting and preconscious stuff from the twenty-four hours
before.
Freud believed that dreams were wish-fulfillment & # 8217 ; s, of class
this is non the instance with my dream of my female parent falling. He perceived many of
our wants in dreams as arising during our early childhood experiences.
This resulted from the suppression of childish sexual behavior which recur
many old ages subsequently in our dreams. He distinguished that non all dreams originate
in childhood experiences, but consequence from grownup wants. Freud contributed to
the plants of dream reading and his is merely one of many penetrations to the
mystical universe of dreams. Everyone has their interpretive analysis and no 1
reply is right, but we may come closer to a simplistic generalisation, possibly
even produce a lexicon on how to read your dream.
