Introduction

As the present society is governed by business driven enthusiasts, the demand for operating systems that could provide the best possible resolutions that could be utilized for business operations is continuously growing. This is what the producers of Linux saw, and thus they responded to the need. The main target of Linux as it could be observed are the large enterprises who are connected with several branches around the world and are catering to thousands of transactions everyday and keeping billions of files every month for the sake of business records. Obviously, as the trade system increases and advances, the files that are needed to support that transactions also double or even triple in number, thus making it harder for the entrepreneurs to manage their time and their transactions as well as keeping their important documents. This is where the Linux OS enters the duty.

Moreover, the Internet browsing processes have also been given ease by the Linux Operating system applications. As earlier discussed, Mozilla Firefox browser was one of the innovative applications that has been introduced by the Linux producers to the Cyber networking systems. This application has helped ease several surfing issues that has been observed from the Internet Explorer browser which has been primarily produced by the Microsoft corporation.

The systematic arrangement of the embedded processors in Linux OS has also made it possible for better security measures possible. This especially concerns those enterprises that transact several business operations through the internet. The ability of the said OS to host a more secure system have made it a great attraction to several entrepreneurs who are aiming to take the risk of opening their business organizations to a larger market through the use of cyber connections.

Aside form this, the fact that the users of Linux OS for their enterprise operations do not have to pay royalty fees which includes the certification of the system. Microsoft Corporation has mainly offered Os to the public that needs to be supported by regular royalty fees. As a result, many enterprise organizations shift to Linux fro better service and lesser expenses. Through this, Linux, again creates a possibility of making larger companies that are able to transact through the internet thus making it possible for the global economy to increase in a faster pace.

As it has been mentioned by Ephraim Schwartz :

“One thing is certain: The enterprise and embedded software are on a         collision course. Right now in the server world, companies are typically          either running Windows with Islands of Linux or Linux with Islands of Windows” (2004, 15).

This fact identifies the issue that Linux is indeed facing a large challenge of making it in the market as it faces the large Corporation of Microsoft by Bill Gates. Seeing it in a more personal perspective, this rivalry could be referred to as the Torvalds versus Gates influence of the market.

         The Benefits of Linux

To individual users of personal computers and laptops
Individual users of computers find it easier to utilize the said OS application with their personal tasks and operations within their own computer sets. The complicated forms of operations that used to be a problem with their Microsoft OS have been replaced by the ease that Linux OS brings them.

To business enterprises
To business enterprises that are aiming to progress well in the field of global economic trade. Linux OS applications made it possible for them to have greater chances of operating over the Internet. The greater security gives them the assurance that their files and their transactions are protected well with the security programs of the OS of Linux.

Business enterprises also benefit much with the less expense that they have to comply with as they utilize the said OS. Unlike other OS applications that are requiring royalty fees, Linux gives the users a chance to have better control on the system.

To the development of IT management
The breakthrough of the embedding of microprocessors within the OS application of Linux makes it an assurance that the Operational systems of the computer world could still do more for the society. Making it possible for large enterprises to have an easier way of transacting through the Internet, the economic status of the entire world in a global picture could be considered as one of the great contributions of Information Technology to the present society of humanity.

Summary:

The overall contribution of the Linux OS to the present civilization of man is the fact that it eases out the responsibilities that humans usually attend to especially in dealing with business transactions. The possibility of creating programs that could perform operations that are considered complicated by many business entrepreneurs, through the Linux application the said complications could already be dealt with in an easier way.

The ease that it brings to the enterprises then makes it a great example of Information Technology’s capability of providing the society with what they need and what they demand for better regular operations specifically in terms of economic progress.

         How Linux Faces Market Competition

As mentioned earlier, Linux is making a great crash against the Microsoft market scope. Why is this so? According to Ephraim Schwartz (2003, 62) in the column Wireless World under the article “Embedded Linux OS”, there are two main reasons why Linux is making a big wave in the computer applications market. These reasons are:

·         License Fees

This factor includes the fact that numerous companies are paying high amount of money to be able to retain their license in utilizing their OS. This is what Linux Os omits in its system. Because of this, the users have a larger scope of control with their OS compared to those who are using the Microsoft OS.

·         Control

Because of the ability of the users to have an unlimited access of the said operating system, they are also able to have greater chances of using the OS to its limits. This means that the more access they have, the more operational activities could be done through the application of Linux within their systems.

Aside from these enlisted reasons, it could be noticed that the main factor that interests consumers in appreciating Linux based products such as processors, even Internet Browsers is the quality of service that they receive from the applications of the said operating systems. Schwartz further adds that the functionality of the Linux OS serves as a major attraction to buyers. This fact could be considered as the main reasons that make it possible for cellphone companies such as Motorola to give its trust to the said OS application. Because of the embedded microprocessors within the Linux OS , Motorola, have decided that it would be the best OS for their newly produced cellphone models.

Through the freeway or open office features of the Linux OS, several microchip-based processes could be embedded within the program that Motorola mobiles offer to its users. Overall, it could be observed that the variety of programs, the benefits and the less restrictions on access that the Linux OS makes it competitive enough in facing the large corporations who are also offering the same genre of computer essentials. Although the competition between Microsoft and Linux is really tight as mentioned by Tom Yager in the article entitled” Linux will get buried”, Microsoft is making several progresses to their own OS applications to be able to compliment the advancements that Linux does on its systems (2006, 18). However, because of the fact that Linux aims to continuously  increase in its quality based service to the customers, it is still noted to be among the tiger companies of the computer world industries.

Aside from the benefits that Linux already impart to the different companies such as Motorola as well as with the individual users of computers, it could be noted that the said company continues to innovate its design to be able to cater to the needs of its clients. It tries to completely overtake the computer industry through implementing the old or traditional way of creating OS bases and merging them with the current innovations as researched by the company’s development team.

Linux tries to develop software that is more sophisticated and thus be able to cater a larger number of clients, especially those enterprises that are affiliated through the internet. Catering to their needs would not only mean that the products that they would be creating would be based on the needs of the said business entities, but it will also open the opportunity of serving a larger market on the part of Linux.

Future Possibilities

With the innovative designs of the Linux OS, it could be noted that through development, the producers of Linux could still create better possibilities of making the operations of enterprises easier to complete. With the promising introduction of the said application, the development of systems application for monetary transactions of business enterprises could be expected to create several breakthroughs in the field of Information technology.

Although the Linux OS could be considered to be among the nearly perfect creations of OS producers, there are still numerous developments that could be implied:

·         The Application of Monetary Security Based Programs

This would include the ability of the OS to provide the needed security for the documents, especially monetary based transactions that are done through the Internet. This would help the enterprises to create their business transactions within the internet and thus welcome larger market of consumers that are making better buying processes through cyber companies.

·         Improvement of Pace Based Applications

“The faster the better”, this is what the idea of having OS applications developed should be mainly focused at. Since the applications and operations become more complicated, the faster pace is needed for the completion of the operations.

·         The application of better processing systems

Processing systems may include programs that are embedded within the system. It could be noticed that Linux already offered the best possible applications there are, there are still some other applications that could be placed within the application’s system.

Summary and Conclusions

Obviously, the three major requirements mentioned herein are displayed  as a primary basis of improvements for the current production of OS. The said improvements are based from the main demands of the people especially of large enterprises in the business industries. It is obvious enough that the these applications are giving consideration to the fact that the growing responsibilities of enterprises results to growing demand for better applications that would be suitable for the growing operations.

The growing demands of globalization also deal with the demands of better technological applications that could be used for the improvement of the economy of the society. Certainly, through the implications of the demands of globalization to the growing developments of Information Technology, it could be noted that the producers of different OS applications could still create possible advancements in the system.

With regards the tie-up of Linux with other companies such as IBM, it has been assured that the said company “would release specifications that define how Linux servers can be modified” (Songini, et. al. 2000, 77). Furthermore, the said modification would be designed to serve thin-client applications to the IBM Network Station. This then would allow the  Linux infusions with the creation of an OS that would be able to cater to multi tasks that are to be performed during the access of the users with said OS. (Songini, et. al., 2000, 77)

During the Linux World Conference, as reported in the Network world Magazine, Linux has promised that the future of the company would mean further advancement in the field of Information Technology. It has been noted that the said program attested to four major advancing developments in the OS creations of Linux. The said four major developments are as follows:

·         Linux-care is expected to unveil a web-based technical support program.

·         Progressive systems will unveil its phoenix adaptive firewall appliance, which is a single-function network server.

·         Lantronix will release a no-cost utility called Rtel that allows printers to be networked in a Linux environment.

·          Interstar Technologies will unveil Lightning fax for Linux, which will serve as a network fax server.

(Source: Songini, et. al., 2000, 77)

The developments listed herein could be noted as an expected breakthrough on the part of the Linux productions as it is merged with the computer companies that they are allied with. Linux OS makes it possible for these applications to have a greater impact on the human society. The creation of such applications certainly made a breakthrough for the global enterprise of businesses as well as for the Information technology reputation in the human society. With the existence of such type of applications, it could be observed that in the years to come expectations in the production of better Operating Systems could be predicted, thus making globalization a major success through the assistance of technological innovations.
