Mexican Cession
The conflict of the Mexican War started on May 8, 1846. Before and during the war
the United States were holding dissensions. The struggle was approximately, when they won the
land from Mexico if it was traveling to be a slave province ( s ) . There was a immature congresswoman
from Pennsylvania that proposed that bondage would non be allowed after the Mexican
War. But so some work forces from the South said that slaves are their & # 8220 ; belongings & # 8221 ; and that they
could hold them. There were many more slavery inquiries asked. Then there was a measure
that was proposed from another immature congresswoman, David Wilmot. David was besides
from Pennsylvania. His measure said, all the land won from Mexico would non be a slave province.
This measure pass the House of Rep, but it didn & # 8217 ; t pass the Senate. During this period the
North looked at the South as if they were another state. Yet the southeners that didn & # 8217 ; T
have slaves still agreed with the other people from the South. Then there was a new party
formed, they called themselves the & # 8220 ; Free Soilers. & # 8221 ; Their misson was to spred bondage in
the new provinces. In 1848 the two other partys, the Whig and the Democratic parties
opposed the spread of bondage. In fright that the state would divide they run into in Buffalo,
New York. There they met the Free Soil party. There motto was & # 8220 ; free dirt, free address,
free labaor, and free m
an.” Although they were to distribute bondage, some of them were
different. They wanted to assist them, slaves.
The Mexican War started when the president of the United States tried to purchase the
land off of Mexico. Mexico said no to this trade, so we went to war with them, that
wasn & # 8217 ; t the lone ground why we went to war. The
anti-slavery New England opposed the war with Mexico. The war lasted about for two
old ages, from May 8, 1846 to September 14, 1847. The United States was out numbered,
and about every clip we fought them we were out numbered. The Mexican & # 8217 ; s admitted
licking in some countries, by go forthing the field, and the land in that country. The conflict turned at
the conflict of Santa Anna, were Buena Vista won with his ground forces of 4,700 military personnels and was
out numbered but defeated the 20,000 Mexicans. When the war ended on September 14,
1847 ; it was because the American military personnels licking and entered Mexico City. The peace
pact was made on February 2, 1848. The pact was called & # 8220 ; The Treaty of Guadalupe-
Hidalgo. & # 8221 ; This pact gave the United States the land they wanted and more. The land
was California, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and Wyoming.
Mexico received 15 million dollars for the land and as a peace giving. The land had many
natural elements, encluding Ag and gold. From this land they got the the Pacific Ocean
for researching, and the Orient for spices, slik, and trade. Then the inquiry came up once more,
sould it be slave provinces?
