In this essay where I am traveling to discourse the similaritys and differences between two verse forms. & # 8220 ; Woman Work & # 8221 ; written by Maya Angelou, which is about a adult female who works all the clip and merely wants to rest. The 2nd verse form is called & # 8220 ; overheard in County Sigo & # 8221 ; written by Gillian Clarke which is about a married adult female holding a conversation with her friend about her life and looking back at what her aspirations were.
& # 8220 ; Woman Work & # 8221 ; is a regular 5 stanza, riming verse form, It is set in southern USA. We know this because of the manner she talkes & # 8220 ; The cane to be cut & # 8221 ; Cane is grown in southern USA, & # 8220 ; I got ta clean up this hut & # 8221 ; Hut is what she calles her house & # 8220 ; And the cotton to Pick & # 8221 ; cotton besides grows in USA. It is about a married adult female who & # 8220 ; married a adult male from county Roscommon & # 8221 ; and she & # 8217 ; s speaking about what her aspirations were & # 8211 ; & # 8220 ; I had thaught to work on the Abbey Stage & # 8221 ; & # 8220 ; or hold my name in a book & # 8221 ; . It doesn & # 8217 ; t sound like she & # 8217 ; s happy but she won & # 8217 ; t leave & # 8211 ; & # 8220 ; the freedom & # 8217 ; s there for the taking & # 8221 ; but she ne’er went.
There are several subjects in & # 8220 ; Woman work & # 8221 ; , one of them being Work. We can see this in the first stanza. She lists all the things she & # 8217 ; s got to make. Another subject being lonleiness. We can see this by the fact that she merely mentions her kids at that place, she may desire person to speak to her or assist her with all her work. Chiefly she merely wants a remainder.
The subject in & # 8220 ; Overheard in county Sligo & # 8221 ; is fundamentally life, it & # 8217 ; s all about a adult female holding a conversation with a friend or person she knows and person else merely happend to be listening. The homemaker is stating her friend about herself, and the fact that she wanted to go forth her life but she ne’er did & # 8211 ; & # 8220 ; the freedoms at that place for the taking & # 8221 ;

oet Maya Angelou has made it so the reader can see a womandoing all this work in the reader’s caput, and how life must hold been like for her. There are no similies in this verse form. None of the 5 stanza’s are used to arouse reactions in the verse form either. “Woman Work” has a long forst stanza and all the other stanza’s are 4 lines 1s.
& # 8220 ; Overheard in County Sligo & # 8221 ; has regular 4 lined stanza & # 8217 ; s all the manner through the verse form in all of the 5 stanza & # 8217 ; s.
When reading & # 8220 ; Woman Work & # 8221 ; the first stanxa has no punctuation untill the last line, so it is breathtaking.
The message that the poet is seeking to acquire through to the reader in & # 8220 ; Woman Work & # 8221 ; is how atrocious life can be and the things you have to make to populate. Besides when I was reading this verse form I was seeking to believe what the adult female in this verse form would hold done when she was educated. Two things came into my head.
1. She got truly bad consequences and no makings so she ended up making things like this, alternatively of acquiring a proper occupation. So the poet might be seeking to underscore how of import it is for kids to seek their best at school.
2. She didn & # 8217 ; t make excessively bad at school but she got kids at a younge age and that took most of her clip so because she & # 8217 ; s individual she can & # 8217 ; t travel to work as when you get kids you need to be looking over them all of the clip to do certain they don & # 8217 ; t acquire hurt or have any accident, and because she wasn & # 8217 ; t working she didn & # 8217 ; Ts have adequate money to acquire a baby-sitter or something.
The message that the poet is seeking to acquire across in the verse form & # 8220 ; Overheard in County Sligo & # 8221 ; is that sometimes you want more than you & # 8217 ; ve got, you & # 8217 ; re non happy but so you & # 8217 ; re non unhappy plenty to go forth where you are and that most of the things you want to make when you grow up you ne’er do.
I havn & # 8217 ; t truly thaught much about verse forms, I don & # 8217 ; t like them and I don & # 8217 ; t understand them. I think that poets are merely composing verse forms for fun/money and that there isn & # 8217 ; t much point behind them. Like narrative ok some of them are based from existent life experiences of the writter but I don & # 8217 ; t see how that is traveling to assist us, apart from it teaches us to read. I don & # 8217 ; t truly like reading books, verse forms and material.
