Parallel Editing Essay, Research Paper
Parallel redaction, or the ability to do two separate actions happen at the same
clip, was innovated by D.W. Griffith and is sole to movies. Action movies are
a good beginning for these, as they give the feeling of tensely making a
flood tide in the movie. In Vampires, by John Carpenter ( 1998 ) , there are two
sequences which include parallel redaction. The first illustration happens instead early
in the film. At this point, a squad of lamia killers commissioned by the
Catholic Church are holding a party at a motel. this occurs after they slayed all
the lamias in a nearby nest, losing the caput lamia, Valek. The analogue
action begins when the three subsisters come back to the motel during daytime in
order to bury the The sequence goes as follows: The landrover Montoya and Katrina are
in thrusts onto the route. you see Montoya snaking on some nutrient Jack is seting
decapitated caputs in a blood-stained white sheet. The landrover continues driving
down a little route. Jack sets the motel on fire, and buries the bag of caputs in a
shallow grave. Shot of Jack in a truck. Some rosary beads with a rood are
violently singing from the rearview mirror of Jack? s truck. He stares at it.
It gives the sense that Jack has done something that he should be disturbed by,
but he is successful at barricading out his emotions. Montoya and the stunned Katrina
cheque into a hotel room. Montoya is ma
de to be really impatient and unnecessarily
vulgar. Jack is at a payphone speaking to person. He says that his squad was
killed. In the background across the street is a big brick wall with a really
colourful wall painting of the Virgin Mary. It cuts to Montoya watching the intelligence in the
hotel room, and he is watching the intelligence coverage of the firing motel room. It
gives the consequence that although there is a definite supernatural component, the
incident was really existent and many guiltless people were viciously killed. Jack is at
a church being treated for his lesions at a church or someplace spiritual. This
creates the feeling that Jack turns to religion when he needs it, and he feels
burdened by it at other times. The sequence ends with a shooting of Valek on top of
a traveling train. The whole sequence lasted merely a few proceedingss. The 2nd
sequence is towards the terminal of the film. Katrina has been infected by the Valek,
and she maintains a psychic nexus with him. Merely before every shooting of the
lamias, there is a shooting of Katrina? s face, signaling that it is being viewed
by her. The sequence goes as follows: Jack, in the bathroom of the hotel, is
inquiring Father Adam what the lamias are looking for. Shot of Valek and his squad
of lamias rousing from the land and walking to a monastery in a desertous
country. Jack argues with Father Adam because he does non desire to state Jack. He
violently convinces Father Adam to follow.
