Masters of Desire: The Culture of American Ad

by: John Solomon

Always Real: Coke chillin in the Hood

By: Scott Charles

How would these two cats analyze an advertizement?

Obviously, these two cats know how to sell something. When I see an advertizement, I see them like Solomon and Charles did. They are similar business communities seeking to sell a merchandise. The advertizements aren t merely selling a merchandise to Americans, but instead the advertizements are directed towards a targeted market. For illustration ; a commercial that wants to sell a regular beer will demo normal cats hanging out. They could be at a saloon, fishing, or holding a field day. The people will be holding a merriment clip. The targeted market would be largely work forces because in the commercials it s largely work forces with the exclusion of a beautiful adult female here and at that place.

Other commercials, harmonizing to Solomon, thrive on adjustment in. The Chevrolet commercials have a motto that makes one feel to be American, one must by American. Chevrolet s motto is The Heartbeat of America. Car commercials besides ha

ve targeted markets besides. For a truck commercial, they will demo a truck acquiring all dirty and traveling through an obstruction. This is targeted towards work forces because most work forces find these things appealing. For a luxury auto commercial the temper or the commercial is nice and pleasant, the auto is on a state route ( stand foring one drive to there state place ) . These autos were one time targeted towards upper category people, but now they are targeted towards everyone harmonizing to Solomon. A commercial strives on the of all time so abiding thrust for Americans to hold better things and mount up the societal position ladder. Sellers know this, so they place normal, mean, mundane looking people in their commercials to allow in-between category people know that they can hold the auto, excessively.

Solomon and Charles know that an advertizement should be aired when the targeted market is watching. A commercial for Bud Light would be worthless to Anhuiser Bush if they aired it on a Saturday forenoon during sketch clip.

The last thing that Solomon and Charles would analyse, would be the fright of non suiting in. So, some commercials try to do people feel like they have to purchase a merchandise merely to suit in.
