In the narrative A Good Man Is Difficult To Find, the grandma is shown to be a really egoistic individual who thinks that the universe revolves around her. The writer makes this fact known right off. The grandma & # 8220 ; & # 8230 ; didn & # 8217 ; t want to travel to Florida & # 8230 ; and she was prehending every opportunity to alter Bailey & # 8217 ; s mind & # 8221 ; ( O & # 8217 ; Connor 354 ) . These first two lines show how selfish she is, significance, she is merely concerned with herself and has no reagard for others. The grandma didn & # 8217 ; t care less about where Bailey and the remainder of the household wanted to travel on holiday. Her lone desire was to travel where she wanted to travel. In a round-about manner, she even goes so far as to deprecate her ain boy by stating he isn & # 8217 ; t a really good male parent if he chooses to take his childs to Florida. When the grandma says, & # 8220 ; I wouldn & # 8217 ; Ts take my kids in any way with a condemnable like that aloose in it & # 8221 ; ( 354 ) , she & # 8217 ; s connoting that she is a much better parent than Bailey is. She says this trusting that Bailey would experience guilty about his determination to travel to Florida, and as a consequence of that guilt, acquire him to alter his head.
Bailey & # 8221 ; s reactions toward his female parent reenforce the fact that she is tyrannizing, even to the point of being intimidating, In the beginning of the narrative, Bailey is shown to be nervous, as & # 8220 ; He was sitting on the border of his chair at the tabular array & # 8230 ; & # 8221 ; ( 354 ) while his female parent is seeking to speak him into altering his head about where they go for their holiday. When they meet up with the misfit, the first thing she says when she realizes who he is, is, & # 8220 ; You wouldn & # 8217 ; t shoot a lady, would you & # 8221 ; ( 361 ) ? She is mentioning to herself. She shows no consideration for them ; she shows no regard. And by making this, it shows how much of a dissembler she is. Trying to acquire on the misfit & # 8217 ; s good side so he won & # 8217 ; t convey any injury to her, she tries to take him to believe that she thinks he & # 8217 ; s a good adult male, even though she knows, through the newspaper article that she read, he is so, a condemnable. But, she keeps stating him anyhow, that he & # 8217 ; s a good individual and that he should pray, that & # 8220 ; Jesus would assist you & # 8221 ; ( 364 ) . She says this to him, non so much because she believes it and has faith in it, but more so because she wants him to believe. She wants him to hold religion. She thinks that is she can convert him to believe that Jesus would assist him and to hold faith in the power of supplication, so he will hold a sudden alteration of bosom and allow her travel, unharmed.
Toward the terminal of the narrative, when nil the grandma has said seems to be working toward her advantage, she tries one more attack. She reaches out to the misfit as if she were his female parent. She says, & # 8220 ; Why, you & # 8217 ; re one of my babes. You & # 8217 ; re one of my ain kids & # 8221 ; ( 365 ) ! It seems the grandma was ever able to acquire her ain boy Bailey to make what she wanted, so she thought if she could link with the misfit in a mother/son manner, so she would acquire him, besides, to make what she wanted. Of class, in the terminal, none of that worked. The grandma & # 8217 ; s selfish, commanding attitude and the manner she manipulated other people, had no bearing on her destiny. For the misfit was even more selfish and commanding than she was.
