Information Systems Sarah Villa BBA 340 Management Information Systems Northern Arizona University Understand System Thinking and the systemic characteristics of Information Systems Today, in order to run a successful business several different factors take a role to keep a well-organized and efficient business practice. Today, businesses develop and manage information systems and system thinking to help eliminate day to day issues that can occur.
The concept of System thinking helps people understand the systems problems and help find a solution to those problems by finding out the root causes of the problem and considering all of them as a whole system. This helps improve a company’s understanding of planning systems (A. Bartra, 2010). Understanding System thinking helps businesses and systems run more efficiently. Studies have repeatedly found that Information systems and business strategy increase profit, productivity, sales growth, and reputation.
These strategies have encouraged more and more businesses to turn to Information Systems to increase all these business factors. (Pinsonneault, 2011) Describe the procedures for developing and managing an information system, so the system furthers the strategic, marketing, financial or operational plans of a work group or an organization In order to develop an appropriate information system to manage projects you need to take the proper steps to develop an efficient program.
The first step is acquiring a system analysis which involves defining and understands the problem, developing alternative solutions and choosing the best solution. Next, designing a system, programming the system, testing the system, conversion, and last developing production and maintenance (Laudon, 2013). I work at a pest control company and we have a specific Information Technology program that we use to keep track of customers, their history, and their individual payments. Computer-aided design technologies are a fundamental aid because of faster response to consumer needs and greater innovation.
The IT program helps improves costumer and supplier relationship; increases process control; facilitates teamwork; facilitates inter-departmental information ? ow; improves design process and skills; applies preventive maintenance; measuring quality costs; and improves the decision process in quality departments which ultimately makes for a more pleasant experience for our customers and easier for the office staff (David Lai Siu Mane, 2011) and helps eliminate potential issues that can occur.
Recognize the competitive and strategic significance of an information system to a work group and an organization for a given case or actual business situation. Due to the increasing importance of Information Systems to organizations, understanding the strategic value of information systems has been one of the top goals of many Information System practitioners (D. Q Chen, 2010). There are several pest control companies in our area, we use the same chemicals and provide the same kinds of services so it’s important to try and separate ourselves from the rest by using our Information System to its full potential.
We are able to monitor spending, save money on supplies to help us keep affordable and competitive prices and it also continues to keep our customers happy by faster transactions and appropriate documents that our customers request. All of these things are easily manageable and help separate our quality of service from the other companies, all from effectively using Information Systems. This helps us maintain a competitive advantage over other companies with organizing people, the organization, and technology.
Appraise the need for collecting reliable data and using it to support their work group. Since we rely so much on Information systems it’s important to keep the most up to date technology to avoid having issues. Before there was the technology that we have now, organizations relied on keeping their data on paper which can become less organized, lead to unwanted errors and can only be accessed by one person and one time. Technology has advanced so much within years; Information Systems have made it not only easier but reliable for companies to store crucial information.
Information Systems not only organize and maintain information but more frequently, companies have to take proper precautions to keep that information safe. Hacking and Spamming has become an increasing issue throughout the years which gives unwanted hackers access to important and private information that can lead to problems like identity theft so firewalls are crucial and can help maintain a reliable system. Analyze a business situation to determine the information system needs and apply systems development steps required to construct the work group’s solution.
Information Systems have opened more opportunities for business to market themselves through the internet. Websites can be accessed from the internet all over the world which is a great way to spread the word about a company. Social media is also a great way to market a company to get exposure. Marketers know that social media is a powerful way to generate sustainable, positive word of mouth. If the company selects the right social media platform, design the right message and engage the right users to spread that message, their campaign should be a success (V.
Kumar, 2012) . The internet is not only a way for the company to reach out to their customers but it also allows customers to be able to reach out to them to get info even after business hours. How many times was it easier to pay online through the company’s website rather than mailing it in or waiting on hold for the next representative? Or looking up your account online instead of having to go through an office administrator? All these options are made possible through information systems. Judge the appropriateness of an information system in a given business situation.
Information systems are very appropriate in a doctor’s office setting because there are several patients that they need to keep track of, their health conditions, payments and insurance company information just to name a few. Without Information systems, all of this information probably wouldn’t been as organized as it needs to be. Patients with specific medical conditions need to have an accessible file so anyone that works at the office can pull their file online or in their system to find out the important info they need.
A lot of payments come in to the doctor’s office also, not only directly from the patient themselves but the insurance companies, so it’s important to keep reliable and up to date data to make sure their office runs as smoothly as possible, especially when it comes to a person’s health.
