Oedipus Rex

In many dramas a character has a misconception of his her

ego and/or his or

her universe. When this misconception is destroyed it can be a major turning

point in

the narrative. & # 8220 ; Oedipus Rex & # 8221 ; by Sophocles is one such narrative. In the narrative Oedipus

has

such a misconception where he thinks he has a good life, but truly his life

is morally

incorrect. This contributes to the subject or subjects of the drama

when they serve as the specifying flood tide of the narrative. When the misconception

is

stopped Oedipus sees that you can non get away or alter your yesteryear, but you

can still

do great things even if you have been evil or immoral in your life.

When Oedipus was born it was prophesied that he would

kill his male parent and

get married his female parent. His male parent of course feared this and told a Shepard to

take the

male child out and kill him when he was still a kid. The sort old Shepard could

non convey

himself to kill a guiltless small male child so he gave him to a passing courier

to take as

his ain. When Oedipus was older he learned of this prognostication and left place

because he loved his Foster male parent who he believed to be his existent male parent.

A piece

after he ran off he going down a route when he saw a manager coming. It

contained his true male parent, King Laios of Thebes and his escorts. When

they

about ran him over Oedipus attacked them killing the escorts and his

male parent,

believing that they were highway brigands, and by making so he inadvertently fulfilled

the

prognostication. When he realizes this he is devastated. This truly contributes

to the

subject, that you can non get away your yesteryear. The fact that he killed a male monarch and

his

father no less, is a major factor in his expatriate later in the narrative.

When he discovers that King Laios was his existent male parent

he sees that by non

running off that he could hold prevented this whole calamity. This merely

goes to

show that hindsight is ever 20/20, Oedipus saw this and realized his error.

Him

recognizing that he can non travel back and alter his yesteryear is besides a large subject

of the narrative.

/ & gt ;

This fact excessively. plays a large portion in his mental dislocation subsequently in the narrative.

After he kills his male parent he is walks farther down the

route when he is accosted

by the Sphinx who tells him that if he can non reply her conundrum right

that she

will kill him. He nevertheless does win in work outing her conundrum and she putting to deaths

herself out

of rage. When word gets out the he was the 1 who caused the decease of the

Sphinx

the people of Thebes ( whose male monarch he merely late killed ) follow him as

their new

male monarch, thanking that their existent male monarch was killed by brigands, and give him the

queen,

Queen Jocasta ( his female parent ) for his bride. They lived merrily for many old ages

and

had four kids. When Oedipus learns of the flagitious offense he has committed

he

about dies. Jocasta upon larning that she had been married to her boy

bents

herself and when Oedipus sees her organic structure swinging he cuts her down and stabs

out his

eyes with her broach. Having disgraced his state he is banished and he

and his

girl Antigone leave Thebes. He subsequently dies in expatriate at a shrine of Apollo

in

Colonus. Before he leaves Thebes nevertheless he states that he will make great

things

before he dies the atrocious decease he believes is reserved for him. He speaks

with

great hubris in the terminal of the drama when he tells Creon to care for his girls

and

Tells of the things he will make before he dies. This, being able to still

accomplish great

things even after making such awful offenses such as incest and regicide.

Realization that you can non alter or get away your yesteryear

and that you can still

achieve great things even after perpetrating atrocious offenses in your life are

all the

things that Oedipus sees after his misconception of his full life is destroyed

and he

sees the things he could hold prevented. When you look back on your life

and see

something that brought approximately bad effects you most frequently see how you

could

have easy avoided the normally little item that caused the whole ordeal.

that is

normally a great learning experience for you.
