Losing person near to you, a loved one, is a really hard state of affairs. This causes people to alter their lives and the manner they look at life. Valediction, a verse form, and Man on the Moon both Tell of this quandary. Many similarities are attributed to the two relationships between adult male and adult female in Valediction and the two brothers, Brent and Sam, in Man on the Moon. However, there are differences between the two narratives.

In this relationship of brother to brother there is a intimacy in which the lone thing that can come between them is decease. Brent and Sam are really near and about act as the same individual. As a large brother, Brent tries soothing Sam when he is scared. He tells Sam, It s OK, it s merely the cockamamie old adult male on the Moon ( 159 ) . Because of this, Sam looks for a type of security from Brent even after he is gone. After watching the first Moon flight Sam says to the sky, I love you brother ; you know that though ( 163 ) . This shows that Sam believes he can have comfort from Brent even though he is gone. By retrieving certain traits, making some of the same activities, and speaking about Brent to others helps him get by with this loss. This occurs when he says, I dropped my canvas bag next to the hill, rubbed up a ball, and stretched. Then I began throwing ( 161 ) . Sam tries to speak about the disappearing in order to let go of some of the ideas he still has indoors, but does non hold much success in that others want to set the past off. Sam is speaking to The Swan, Brent s girlfriend, and inquiring if Brent would desire them t

o move on. Sam so says, Brent would state, Don t look back brother. Another twenty-four hours, another heater ( 164 ) . Although Brent is still in his head, old ages subsequently in his life, Sam is able to travel on in life and prosecute different roads in life.

The verse form, Valediction, is in many ways similar to the narrative Man on the Moon ; nevertheless, there is contrast excessively. The whole thought of the verse form Valediction is similar to the narrative Man on the Moon in that valedictory address is defined as stating adieu. In much the same manner as the narrative, Valediction starts off with the adult male retrieving his lost comrade s attributes. He recalls the Lady with the frilled blouse and simple plaid skirt. The ideas of her injuries him mentally when he says, Since you have left the house its emptiness has hurt all ideas. He is nevertheless able to remember the good things as in Man on the Moon when he says that clip moved by easy with her which led to him smiling, but without her the balance is uneven, go forthing him empty. Differently from Man on the Moon, the adult male does non look able to transport on after she has left him. He says, Until you resume command ego is in mutiny. Because of this he is non willing to do a alteration in his life, for he merely wishes to acquire his old life back.

Though these times of loss are hard, Sam in Man on the Moon will be able to travel on and hold a happier life for he is willing to do alterations. The adult male in Valediction will hold a more hard clip for he is seeking to keep on to the yesteryear. For one must be able to retrieve the good things but be able to set away the yesteryear.
