Woman Hollering Creek and Other Stories is a book of short narratives published in 1991 by San Antonio-based Mexican-American author Sandra Cisneros. The aggregation reflects Cisneros’s experience of being surrounded by American influences while still being familially bound to her Mexican heritage as she grew-up North of the Mexico-US boundary line.

These narratives focus on the societal function of adult females. and their relationships with the work forces and other adult females in their lives. The bulk of the characters are stereotypes: work forces embody machismo while adult females are naive and by and large weak. Cisneros focuses on three feminine cliches: the inactive virgin. iniquitous seductress. and faithless female parent. [ 1 ] Not decently belonging to either Mexico or America. the Chicana supporters seriously search for their individuality. merely to detect maltreatment and tattered dreams. Apart from concentrating on these issues of fighting females. Cisneros at the same time develops the readers’ sensitiveness towards the lives of immigrants.

The sketchs are rather short on norm ; the longest is 29 pages. while the shortest is fewer than five paragraphs. Despite such limited infinite. Cisneros experiments with make bolding poetic prose in her storytelling ; for illustration. each narrative presents a new character with a distinguishable literary voice and manner.
