Frank Wu is an Asian-American pupil go toing graduate school at the university of Michigan. This state is still weary of people who look or speak in a different manner than the norm. Although Wu has lived his whole life in the U.S.A many people can non believe that he is truly American, they feel that he must merely be a alien seeking a better instruction in the U.S. The United States is frequently referred to as the great thaw pot. This peculiar look refers to the many different civilizations that merge together to organize America. Wu does non experience that this is an accurate word picture of life in the U.S.

Frank Wu feels that Americans can be really unaccepting of people in their state whether they mean to be disrespectful or non. Wu demonstrates that people sometimes have the best of purposes, but they are believing with a narrow head, Sometimes strangers compliment me on my English ( Wu 81 ) . There are other issues besides simple name naming and infantile games. It seems that oriental Americans are in a no win state of affairs. If these people try to unify with the other American people so they lose some of their heritage. Wu states that some Oriental persons are the marks of bitterness from other Orientals t

hat accuse them of selling themselves out and being Americanized. Asiatic American pupils use the footings banana and Twinkie to mention to pupils who are xanthous on the outside, white on the interior ( Wu82 ) .
