The Revolution wrecked Haiti’s economic system because it challenged the universe as it was so. Slavery was the bosom of a thriving system of merchandiser capitalist economy that profited Europe. devastated Africa. and propelled the enlargement of the Americas. Independent Haiti had few friends. All the world’s powers sided with France against the self-proclaimed Black Republic which declared it a oasis for runaway slaves. Hemmed in by slave settlements. Haiti had merely one non-colonized neighbour. the slavery United States ; which refused to acknowledge Haiti’s independency for decennaries.
The Haitian Revolution of 1789-1803 transformed Gallic Saint Domingue. one of the most productive European settlements of its twenty-four hours. into an independent province run by former slaves and the posterities of slaves It produced the world’s first illustrations of sweeping emancipation in a major slaveowning society. of colonial representation in a metropolitan assembly. and of full racial equality in a European settlement. It occurred when the Atlantic slave trade was at its extremum. and when bondage was an recognized establishment from Canada to Chile.
The slave rebellion that between 1791 and 1793 laid waste the vastly affluent settlement was likely the largest and exclusive to the full successful one there has of all time been. Of all American battles for colonial independency. the Haitian Revolution involved the greatest grade of mass mobilisation. and brought the greatest grade of societal and economic alteration. In an age of disruptive events and universe war. it seized international attending with images of revelatory devastation and of a new universe in the devising.
