Clearly, Mr. John De Vore is sympathizing with the ideas given by the author Woody Hochswender because they have the same vehicle. By having the same vehicle, it seems that De Vore was able to find sense in Hochswender’s ideas. I do believe that one of the causes of the war in the Middle East is the need to have larger oil reserves. Seemingly, the Americans were brought up in a culture where bigger is better and almost everything they have is huge in terms in size and amount. Thus, the government provides the needs of the people according to the culture that has been present since time immemorial.

However, I think that considering the climate change and other situations that the international community is currently facing, we as responsible citizens of the world should not deny that we also have a responsibility with regard to our environment. We must remember there are people who go to work without cars. Rather, they use bicycles, public transportation, or walk to go to one place to another. Although it is not truly advisable to utilize such methods in a fast paced life, it could be one of the best ways to lessen environment degradation.

Thus, it appears that Mr. De Vore was only sympathizing due to his relative lifestyle. However, there is more to life than only thinking within the layers of Hochswender’s statements. In all honesty, the author’s perspective is too selfish; he does not connect to the needs of the current society of the United States. To quote the newly elected President Obama’s statement in his campaigns, “Yes We Can. ” Highlighting the word we, he states that a person must not only focus on himself or herself but the whole society he or she is in.
