The primary element taken into advantage is the business process description and the various identification of the potential entities involved in the system. This is the stage when the various roles of the software are determined so that they can be rightly fitted into the system.

The second initiative would be the identify the various responsibilities of the system which ensure a better picture of the processes that are involved in the system. Once the processes are found out, simultaneously the process mapping to the various entities are also met.

The information flow table and diagram are the preliminary elements which have been taken up so as to define clearly the information flow among the various roles and fulfillment of the various responsibilities.

The data flow diagram is taken up next at every level to denote a micro level design for the various processes identified at the level.

1.      An Information Flow Table (IFT)

Figure 1: IFT

Description: The information presented above clearly shows the various processes, the inputs and the outputs for the processes and the entities that are involved in the initiation and finish of the processes.  A little description is added to make sure one understands the table better.

2.       An Information Flow Diagram (IFD)

Figure 2: IFD

Description: The Information flow table is responsible for fetching this diagram and all the processes and the roles of the entities are detailed at this stage.

3.       A Context Diagram (Level 0 DFD)

Figure 3: DFD Context Level

Description: It clearly depicts the macro level system diagram for the organization. It outlines all the various external entities and the tasks which they are involved in.

4.      A Level 1 Data Flow Diagram (DFD)

Figure 4: DFD – Level 1

Description: The detailed labelling of the processes is done at the level one DFD and it clearly depicts the files which would be used for storing the various records.

5.      Two Level 2 Data Flow Diagrams (DFD)

Figure 5: DFD L2

Description: The Order process in the level one DFD is enlarged at this point. The various data structures, processes and entities are labeled at this stage.  The accounts department entity is added at this stage as the various the order finish status is to be successfully closed.

Figure 6: DFD L2

Description: The Materials order line process of the level one DFD is outlined at this stage.

Figure 7: DFD L2

Description: The Job Allocation process of the level one DFD is outlined at this stage.
