More Tragic ; Oedipus Or Antigone? Essay, Research Paper
Sophocles was a maestro of calamity, there? s no statement at that place. But
which of the 2 dramas we? ve studied, Oedipus the King and Antigone, is the
more tragic? I believe that Oedipus the King was more intensely tragic and I
believe that if I were to see a the dramas? back to endorse, ? Oedipus would be the
more likely one to concentrate true emotions from me.
I think Oedipus? psychotherapeutic value can be seen clearly when you compare
the entireness of the consequences in both dramas. In Antigone, she loses 2 brothers,
and so a lover, and eventually her life. Oedipus loses his assurance, his
true male parent, his true female parent, his? adoptive? male parent, his married woman, his unity, his
people, and his sight. When you weigh the two, Oedipus is evidently the
more tragic, in this one country at least.
Surely one must see that Oedipus goes through a more psychotherapeutic
calamity than Antigone when one looks at the fortunes under which the
calamity falls every bit good. Antigone knew full good that what she was making
was
incorrect. She knew that if she buried her brother bad things would go on and
she was ready and willing to decease. Oedipus on the other manus really thought
he was making the metropolis some good by seeking out the slayer of Laius. He
thought everything was traveling to turn out merely mulct in the terminal, which makes
his ruin that much worse.
A point that besides must be considered is hybris. Many people wear? T feel
like they can associate to Oedipus because of his hybris, whereas Antigone is a
really tangible kind of character, really down to Earth and a? people? s hero? so
to talk. She is strong, and willing to decease for her cause.
The presentation of imagination in the dramas besides creates an statement in
favour of Oedipus being the more tragic of the 2 dramas. There is more
dramatic sarcasm in the manner Oedipus is written, hence doing it more
purgative.
Both of the dramas tell a great tragic narrative about the human spirit and
doggedness for a cause, but I feel that Oedipus is more tragic and
emotionally cathartic.
