Oedipus Rex Essay, Research Paper
Dear Oedipus Rex,
In so many ways I feel really regretful for you because you? ve had to cover with the guilt
of holding unwittingly murdered your male parent and married your female parent. You deserve your
destiny no more than any other individual deserves the fortunes of their birth. The lone
duty one has is to do the best of one? s fortunes. Whether one deserves it
or non is a unpointed inquiry.
It is the Gods who set the destiny for all in your universe and besides predestined your life.
Whatever will go on, does go on. Man may believe he is in control of his actions, but this
can be merely looked upon as hocus-pocus by the Gods. You do hold free will, because no 1
forces you to make anything. Although, I think it is the individual? s character that plays a immense
portion in their hereafter. So I believe it was your ain character that fulfilled your prognostication.
After confer withing the prophet, you leave Cornith because of your ain household morality. You
Don? T want to kill your male parent or slumber with your female parent, but seeking to avoid it complicates
affairs anyhow.
Oedipus, I believe you are in a manner an inspiration for adult male, because you live to be a
truth-seeker, even if others try to barricade your way. You follow morality and accept
duty for your actions, whether they were deliberate or non. No 1 else had
plenty bravery to make so. Looking at Jocasta, she attempts to soothe you and state you to
allow it travel clip after clip. She besides takes the speedy manner out of certain state of affairss. The old
Theben shepherd proves to be even worse, since he ne’er told the truth unless he was
threatened. And in all this, Jocasta and the shepherd merely enlarge your gallantry. Oedipus,
you are really much an alone hero, a hero unlike any other. You realized that your pursuit for
cognition may stop in hurting and grief, which to you seemed to be better than ignorance
and felicity. In the terminal you even punished yourself ( instead viciously, excessively ) , one time once more
demoing duty and justness for your actions.
Like any other adult male, you besides have certain character defects. At times, you showed excessively
much pride, and haughtiness. You believed that you are able to understand and suppress all,
yet this likely was one of the grounds for your ruin. You were besides reasonably nescient.
You unwittingly cursed yourself when you spoke of penalty for the liquidator. You
besides blindly accused Creon of being an enemy, & # 8220 ; You? re speedy to talk, but I am slow to
appreciation you, for I have found you unsafe, and my foe. ? In both these state of affairss, you have
acted without grounds. Besides, you were really choleric, exposing irrational ideas,
which is something everyone can make at one clip or another.
But, given all these traits, I want you to cognize that you were a great adult male and
became a hero in the terminal. You pursued the truth at whatever personal cost and had the
strength to accept and digest it when found. And I think that is something to be proud of.
Sincerely,
Dawn Kidle
