The Songmaker by Blackbear Bosin, displayed at the Indian Center Museum in Wichita, is an interesting picture. The picture was done in 1970 utilizing gouache and painted on a 30 inch by 22 inch canvas. It is in a private aggregation and the value of the picture is unknown.

The Songmaker is a Kiowa Medicine Man whose eyes are unopen and he appears to be in the center of a religious dance or vocalizing. His palpebras, cheeks, and nose are all painted ruddy as if he is have oning a mask. His hair is long and black with white long knocks ; the headgear he wears is little and has three plumes hanging off the forepart of his face. On top of his caput sits a songster that seems to be singing with the adult male. He wears a white necklace with ruddy beads and an emblem of some sort against his cervix. He s maintaining the round with a membranophone and a ceremonial drumstick with long tassels hanging off of it. The whole scene seems kind of dreamlike with the centre background being sunglassess of violet that turn into grey. Outside of the grey is cream that turns into dark green. It all draws your attending onto the medical specialty adult male in the center.

I think what the creative person was seeking to convey is that the medical specialty adult male is slightly surreal. His eyes are painted, meaning slumber. Possibly the medical specialty adult male came to the creative person in a dream or a vision.

Possibly the medical specialty adult male is unsighted ; or he could be seeing blood, meaning the hurting of his people. There besides appears to be ruddy plumes or fire coming from the dorsum of his caput. My lone conjecture of what this means is possibly fire combustion through his caput, once more meaning hurting. His headgear besides may be covering his face or his eyes, but it is difficult to state. The bird on top is singing with him and possibly maintaining round with the membranophone. The bird s plumes besides blend with his hair. This could stand for his existent headgear. The tassels from the drumstick flow good and intermix in with the cream portion of the background. I think the temper that is set is a phantasmagoric one, or dreamlike.

The value of this picture is listed at unknown, but I would love to hold this piece in my life room. I would value this picture at five to eight thousand dollars, but that s merely my sentiment. The existent value is taken in the individual standing in forepart of the picture, the oculus of the perceiver. I like Native American Art a batch. My parents both have pictures by Native Americans and they paid a batch for them.

This picture could stand for a batch of different things, but the significance doesn t affair every bit long as you enjoy the picture. It is a surreal scene with ruddy, green and violet being the primary colourss. The Songmaker by Blackbear Bosin is really interesting, but a choice piece of graphics.
