In the film Treasure of the Sierra Madre, two down and out American ex-patriots in Tampico, Mexico, team up with an old prospector to look for gold. Throughout the film, these three work forces are faced with assorted challenges. They must contend off brigands, seek to last in the wilderness and learn to digest and swear each other.
The film opens on the custodies of a scraggly looking rotter, dirty and scrounging, keeping a lottery ticket. This adult male is subsequently introduced as Dobbs. Dobbs is certain that Curtain will slay him in the dark and slaying him, so he bets him all the gold that he will be able to remain awake longer.
When Curtain falls asleep foremost, Dobbs attacks him and shoots him twice. He so goes to kip. Meanwhile, an injured Curtain crawls off stoping up back at the Indian cantonment where Howard is.
