Historical Context- President Richard M. Nixon was being charged of seeking to cover up the Watergate incident. Watergate was and still is the central office for the Democratic Party. Some of Nixon s work forces broke into the complex and tried to wire tap the telephones. However, the staff of life in went bad. So, they went in the 2nd clip but this clip they were caught by a security guard. They were taken to prison. The ground why the work forces wanted to wire tap the phone was so that they can seek and happen some soil about the Democratic campaigner running against Nixon for the Presidency. When the work forces were taken down to gaol, they were being asked why were they wire tapping the phones, they did non speak. Because Nixon was paying them to maintain quiet. But, they finally they started speaking. They told everyone that President Nixon was involved with the offense. Even though Nixon was non in charge of directing these work forces to the Watergate Complex, his Head of Staff was. This gave the thought that he was some how tied in to the offense.
The wire-tapping was non a really big offense, all Nixon had to state was that he did non make it. He wouldn Ts have been lying. However, Nixon did non state this. Alternatively of squealing it to the populace he decided that he could seek and cover it up. This is what got him in problem and would finally take to being the first President in United States History to vacate out of the Presidency. He was lucky though because he was pardoned by vice-president Gerald Ford. He tried to cover this offense up by paying the people in gaol to remain quiet and by holding the FBI acquire rid of all of the grounds that was found in the scene of the offense. Facts of the Case- Nixon tried to keep grounds back from Congress. The grounds that he tried to maintain from Congress was the tapes that recorded Nixon speaking to his staff in private. He ruled the Executive Privilege to seek and maintain the tapes off from Congress. Executive Privilege is a privilege that let the president to with hold grounds or information that could take to jeopardizing the Nations Security. He claimed that by taking these tapes and playing them, it will be risky for the Nations security. The ground he said this was because the Watergate recordings were on the tape and besides top secret information that was passed or used in the Oval Office. He claimed that if some of these entering were played that it would ache the authorities more that it will ache him.
The ground why Congress wanted this grounds so bad was because they wanted to cognize the truth. Once the truth and all of the grounds is shown so they will hold to do a pick in conditions they should impe

Constitutional Issue- The constitutional issue in United States v. Nixon ( 1974 ) had to make with he right of the President utilizing the Executive Privilege. This issue was really controversial because it had to make with the rights of the president, Congress, and National Security. It involves the President because the President has the right to with hold grounds from Congress or any other portion of the authorities if it the grounds will jeopardize the states National security. However, Congress who has the right to inquire information from the president is protected through the governmental system of cheques and balances. The President must describe to Congress with all requested information. Congress besides has informants that say that in the tapes that President Nixon has is the cogent evidence that President Nixon was involved in the Watergate screen up.
