The darks of April 21-22, 1999 in Berkeley, California, The San Francisco Symphony was

joined by the stone set, Metallica for a public presentation at the Berkeley Community Theater. It was

conducted by Micheal Kamen. The hall was filled to capacity with both hardcore Metallica fans.

Before the concert even started, they were on their pess, heartening for both Metallica and the

members of the symphonic music. The were all dressed in street apparels. Most opted to have on denims and a

Metallica shirt. The members of Metallica, James Hetfield, the guitar player and singer, Lars Ulrich,

the drummer, Kirk Hammett on lead guitar, and Jason Newsted, on the bass guitar, were besides in

street apparels. With the exclusion of Lars, who wore a white T-shirt the set wore all black. The

music director and the members of the symphonic music all dressed officially, have oning ties and dress suits. Usshers

besides wore formal uniforms.

The music was astonishing. The symphonic music complimented the electric instruments absolutely.

The symphonic music played so good, that person who had ne’er heard a Metallica vocal earlier would

think Metallica had ever been backed by a symphonic music. The orchestral music was in the manner of

the twentieth century because it was by Micheal Kamen, a twentieth century composer.

The vocal that appealed to me the most was & # 8220 ; No Leaf Clover & # 8221 ; by James Hetfield and Lars

Ulrich, written in 1999. It starts off slow with merely strings, some brass, and Kirk Hammett playing

lead guitar. Then Lars comes in on the membranophones, while James and Jason come in with beat guitar

and bass guitar. James sings a poetry and so the beat guitar and bass halt and the presentation

repetitions but the membranophones play with it this clip, and the lead Kirk dramas on his guitar is somewhat

different. James besides sings this clip while it is being played. After that they go back into a poetry

with all the electric instruments, the membranophones and the strings playing. This is followed by the

chorus. During the chorus James sings the words, while all of the electric instruments are played.

They were backed by strings. Then the strings and membranophones continue, while Kirk plays an

improbably complex lead. After this he is one time once more joined by the other electric instruments,

and

finally they go back into the chorus. Then all the instruments maintain traveling higher and higher in

tone, until they crescendo and the vocal ends.

All of the vocals are really intense. The buffeting membranophones and raunchy Riffs, backed by the

orchestra make you want to leap up and down and cry, with your fists in the air. The feeling is

like a drug, you don & # 8217 ; t want the music to halt, and when it does halt you want more.

The members of Metallica are professionals when it comes to working the crowd, but the

participants in the orchestra besides put on quite a show. The members of the symphonic music would stand up

when a member of Metallica came over and played in their country, giving themselves to the music.

They truly got into it and the crowd loved them for it. All in all the stone instrumentalists and the

classical instrumentalists looked comfy with each other and their music blended really good

together.

While the stone is nil new to me since I play guitar myself and work for a local set

as their sound tech, the symphonic music was a new experience for me. The lone classical music I had

of all time heard up until this point was from Bugs Bunny sketchs. I truly bask listening to this

album. I find myself even listening to the paths that Metallica doesn & # 8217 ; t play on. & # 8220 ; S & A ; M & # 8221 ; is unlike

any other album I have of all time heard. I wouldn & # 8217 ; Ts say the public presentation was different from what I

expected because I truly did non cognize what to anticipate. Metallica is a really various set and

when they are backed by instrumentalists every bit talented as those in an orchestra, anything is possible.

While many stone sets have used orchestras to endorse them on a vocal or two they have

ne’er made usage of an orchestra of this size, for this many vocals. The Beatles did in on & # 8220 ; Sgt.

Pepper, & # 8221 ; Bush did it on & # 8220 ; Glycerine, & # 8221 ; and Creed did it on & # 8220 ; With Arms Wide Open, & # 8221 ; but none of

them were able to to the full capture the feeling of a full orchestra every bit good as Metallica did. I would

decidedly urge this album to anyone that likes either stone music or classical music. If

Metallica was of all time to make something like this once more I would most surely try to acquire tickets to it

whether I was required or non.
