Sometimes in our lives world can look like a dream semen true, in “ A

Midsummer Night & # 8217 ; s Dream, ” by William Shakespeare, to the characters, their

dreams are world. Shakespeare focuses on amusing love scenes to portray dream

within world and world within dreams. This drama takes you to a fantasy universe

where faeries live and pixie dust is existent and where anything is possible. In

this universe, dreams become world and world is alluded as a dream. The first

act gives us a expression at our first struggle. Hermia is betrothed to Demetrius by

her male parent Egeus. Hermia is in love with Lysander because, as her male parent

describes it, Lysander has “ by moonshine & # 8230 ; . interchanged love items with

my kid. ” Egeus is angry that his girl would travel against his wants so

he presents his instance to the male monarch of Athens, Theseus. Harmonizing to the jurisprudence of

Athinais, decease should be the sentence if you go against your male parent & # 8217 ; s wants.

“ By the following new Moon, ” she must do her determination, decease or a life

with Demetrius. Lysander and Hermia, of class upset by this intelligence, program to go forth

Athinais and marry in another land, “ I have a widow aunt & # 8230 ; . from Athens is

her house remote seven conferences ; at that place, soft Hermia, may I get married thee, and to

that place the crisp Athenian jurisprudence can non prosecute us. ” They plan to run into the

following dark in the forests. This following scene is the scene that I will be showing,

in which Demetrius enters looking for Hermia. He is looking for them because

“ 1000 ( Helena ) toldst me they were stol & # 8217 ; n unto this wood ; ” Helena is

following him and studing on him. She is in never-never land because she loves

Demetrius. Helena is a friend of Hermia, she wants Hermia to “ learn

me ( Helena ) how you look and with what are you sway the gesture of Demetrius & # 8217 ;

bosom. ” Helena is really much in love with Demetrius and doesn & # 8217 ; t understand

how Hermia can reject him. Helena told Demetrius of Lysander and Hermia & # 8217 ; s program,

believing that possibly merely possibly his love will be transferred onto her. This would

be her dream semen true. Demetrius is annoyed by Helena, “ I love thee non ;

hence prosecute me non. ” She could care less what he thinks. The more he

rejects her “ and even for that do I love you the more. ” The flood tide of

my scene is when Demetrius is angry and at his marbless terminal and Helena, still

enamored, points more. The tone in this scene helps better portray the difference

between the two characters. Helena makes loving gestures and voice inflexions

while Demetrius responds with disgust to everything she says. These characters

hold wholly opposite feelings for each other. This sets them up to hold an

brush with Lysander and Hermia. Lysander and Hermia escape into the forests

but they grow really weary. They decide to rest and this is where the problem all

Begins. This is where the world is alluded as a dream. Hermia makes Lysander

“ Lie farther off, in human modestness. ” This is non a usage which lovers

would usually follow. When Puck ( a faery ) arrives on the scene he sees them

kiping off from each other and assumes that Lysander has a “ deficiency

-love ” for Hermia. So he decides to take it upon himself to assist the

state of affairs, which really didn & # 8217 ; t need any aid. He “ peasant, upon thy eyes I

throw all the power this appeal point owe, ” while seting a love juice to

Lysander & # 8217 ; s eyes. Lysander awakens and because of the love juice, which causes

him to fall in love with the first individual he sees, in this instance Helena. He falls

immediately in love “ Not Hermia but Helena I love. ” Lysander leaves to

follow Helena, his new found love, burying and go forthing Hermia entirely. Hermia

awakens to happen Lysander gone, doing more build up towards the flood tide. Hermia

wants to cognize “ where is he? ( Lysander ) . ” She believes that Demetrius

might hold killed him. Demetrius sees that “ there is no following her in

this ferocious vena ” . So he lies down to kip. Oberon ( King of the faeries )

makes Demetrius sleepy so he will non go forth because Puck “ hast mistaken

rather and laid the love juice on some true love & # 8217 ; s sight. ” He sends Puck to

happen Helena so he can do Demetrius love her before things get excessively mussy.

Oberon dramatis personaes love juice into Demetrius eyes. Puck returns with Helena and

Lysander is besides with her. Demetrius wakes up and falls in love with Helena.

This is where the drama builds to a flood tide and mass confusion sets in. Hermia is

confused because Lysander claims he loves Helena. She tells him “ you speak

non as you think. It can non be. ” Helena thinks that both Demetrius and

Lysander are doing merriment of her “ but you must fall in in psyches to mock me

excessively? ” Conflict happens between Lysander and

Demetrius because Demetrius is

mad that Lysander transferred his love from Hermia to Helena. He doesn & # 8217 ; t want to

portion Helena. Lysander professes his love “ whom I do love and will make till

my decease ( speech production of Helena ) . ” Helena is confused “ ne’er did scoffers

waste more idle breath. ” Why were they blowing their breathe over her? Then

starts the struggle between Hermia and Helen. Helena asks Hermia why she “ articulation ( s )

with work forces in contemning your hapless friend? It is non friendly, & # 8217 ; Ti non

maidenly. ” But Hermia believes that Helenea is making the same to her

“ it seems that you scorn me. ” Because both work forces are in love with Helena

non Hermia, Demetrius and Lysander start a physical conflict which escalates the

flood tide. Everyone is in a fury and a major crisis is at manus. Oberon and Puck

recognize the immense muss they have made! They realize that they must reconstruct

everything, so Oberon commands Puck to “ oppress this herb into Lysander & # 8217 ; s

oculus & # 8230 ; . when following they wake, all this derision shall look a dream and fruitless

vision & # 8230 ; . ” therefore the name “ A Midsummer Night & # 8217 ; s Dream. ” When they

rousing this whole dark will be a dream to them but all the bad luck did take

topographic point. Puck decides to convey everyone together, so that the old bad lucks

will non be reacted. They are all excessively weary to contend and immediately fall asleep,

returning one time once more to dreamland. Puck squeezes the juice in Lysander & # 8217 ; s eyes

and recites a verse form to return everything to put “ Jack shall hold

Jill ” intending everyone will hold one to love. To decide the struggle that

started it all between Hermia and her male parent, Theseus and Egeus run across the

kiping four “ But soft! what nymphs are these. ” Theseus asks Egeus

“ Is non this the twenty-four hours that Hermia should give reply of her pick? ”

They awaken the four lovers and explaining is due. Lysander and Hermia explain

that they are in love, and Demetrius and Helena have besides found felicity.

Theseus, after hearing their love edicts, declares that “ just lovers you

are fortuitously met ” and that he will “ overbear ” the will of

Egeus. Demetrius, Hermia, Helena, Lysander ask each other what merely happened

because they believe it to be a dream, when in fact for the first clip it is

world. Happiness for all is achieved. Puck wants to stop on a sort note so so

to the audience he explains “ If we shadows have offended think but this and

all is mended, that you have but slumbered here while these visions did look

and this weak and idle subject no more giving up but a dream. ” Possibly we as

audience members or readers of this drama we were woolgathering. This whole escapade

was merely a dream. To take a deeper expression into the character of Helena you would

notice that she wants one thing and one thing merely, Demetrius. She doesn & # 8217 ; T

understand why Demetrius loves Hermia. She would make or give anything to go

Hermia merely to win Demetrius & # 8217 ; s bosom. Her self-pride is non really high, she

regards Hermia and believes that she is no where nigh in comparing or

Demetrius would wish her. She believes that “ unworthy as I am to follow

you, ” ( talking to Demetrius ) . She besides says that she doesn & # 8217 ; t care how he

dainties her “ utilize me, but as your spaniel, reject me, strike me, pretermit me,

lose me. ” She is rather simple and has likely ne’er been in love before.

She is pleasant but excessively in love with Demetrius, “ I follow thee and do

a Eden of snake pit, to decease upon the manus I love so good. ” As the drama

advancements Helena attempts to maintain her friendly relationship with Hermia. She tries to explicate

she loves Demetrius non Lysander when Hermia needs that account. She wanted

Hermia to cognize she didn & # 8217 ; t seek to win Lysander & # 8217 ; s bosom. Her motive and love

for Demetrius is changeless throughout the drama, it pays off in the terminal. Demetrius

wants nil more than to get married Hermia and will make anything to maintain Lysander

out of the image. He is strong willed and set in his manner. His head can non be

swayed. We recognize this when he goes to King Theseus to do certain that Hermia

must follow the orders of her male parent. In the scene that I will be showing he

wants nil more that to acquire rid of Helena, to acquire her off his dorsum. He wants

her to halt studing on him. By the terminal of the drama his attitude alterations ( Puck

helps a small ) , which in leads him to merely the antonym of what he was experiencing

before. Now he is in fact in love with Helena. Dream land is a topographic point we all love

to travel to. Shakespeare creates for us a dream within world. Possibly the things we

dream are world. Possibly each of us have our ain faeries sprinkle flower juice

in our eyes. Then once more possibly non. But whether dream or world we can & # 8217 ; T

distinguish, so let felicity be felicity.
